There is a photo, which may or may not appear on Toolarmy (if you know where too look) which may or may not have lenticular keychains in it. I’ll let you guys be the judge:

This changes everything.
I’d love to speculate that they’re pulling a Bowie, but it’s probably just their back catalogue, waiting to be repackaged with action figures : / which could be kewl…..
they do kind of look like giant keychains.
Those are analog tape cases. They’re definitely either remastering something (Undertow or Aenima maybe?) or putting together a Salival type release.
If they never release a live DVD I’d still be happy if they put out a record from those shows they taped at the end of Lateralus tour. The band was on fire back then, to hear a mastered mix desk recording would be superb
late 2002 Lateralus tour was definitely the highlight of live Tool for me, not that there haven’t been plenty of other great tours (1998 shows !!!), but yea Im pretty much in agreement that if they’re digging out all the old master tapes and stuff we’re gonna (hopefully) be getting some remastered reissues of their earlier albums. I know they JUST did a 21st anniversary release for Opiate but that doesnt rule out an Opiate remaster for wide release, as opposed to the “treat for fans” $150 Opiate reissue from last year. Some ppl might bitch abt this, but everytime… Read more »
I remember that in one of the newsletters just prior to the release of 10,000 Days (I think), Blair explained that they use this analog tape to record their records. The company that sold the tape was going out of business, so they bought a ton of it for future records.
I think that is what we are seeing here: tape to be used in the recording of a new album.
that’s what I was thinking…maybe they are going to record soon…especially considering bmb’s helper was “joe” = evil joe barisi*
Yeah… those companies did go out of business… Right around 2004-2005ish is when I went to audio engineering school and that was a big deal because Pro Tools was getting huge and killing analogue. All of our instructors were severely bummed that they were witnessing the end of tape production. A lot of them were buying tape up themselves and I had never heard that TOOL were buying it up. So that was right prior to 10,000 Days… For the life of me I can’t remember the names of the companies that went out of business but the big deal… Read more »
You’re probably right. He even mentions ‘blank recording tape (?)’ in the letter. And why else would Joe be there, if it is Barresi
Just read the newsletter. Is there something in his pay going from 15 to 12 to 10? Now I am trying to find meaning in these posts, damn! Album or something will be out 10/12/15?
10/12/15 is too far away for it to be a meaningful release date. No one plans to release albums or DVDs on a specific date more than a year into the future.
Well aware of this. Also, this date would not be a Tuesday which is the typical release date here in the US. Just having some random fun with one of those newsletters. Everyone is always trying to find deeper meaning in those ramblings.
If there is a hidden message in these numbers, I could venture a guess. “15 to 12 to 10”. The differences are 3 then 2, next would be 1 so the next number in that series would be 9 (10 minus 1). 9 could mean that something is coming out/happening in September (the 9th month). “3, 2, 1…” could also be that something is about to happen like in a countdown. Who knows (Blair does I suppose)? I remember during the Vegas VIP thing with Adam, someone asked about the meaning of various numbers and hidden messages and he looked… Read more »
All I can say is, don’t get your hopes up. Blair has been a giant tease for as long as I can remember and this just seems like another elaborate joke. Tool’s not releasing anything new anytime soon… But I could be wrong.
