Danny & Blair chat on Children of Saturn

As promised, Danny and Blair had a chat on Rynne’s Children of Saturn show, discussing their trip to France as well as a small update on Tool. They also took a few questions from Facebook, one of which was from yours truly! Here’s a summary of the bits I imagine most of you are interested in:

  • Songwriting is progressing well, especially on the 20 minute epic they’ve mentioned numerous times. Danny mentioned that Justin in particular is quite happy with a recent version of the song. No mention of Maynard at all.
  • Adam didn’t go on his annual trip to the UK this November, which means that the band seem to have found some extra time to work together.
  • No tours or other distractions are on the cards
  • There are no plans for other Tool (non-album) releases or reissues at this stage, however Danny did suggest that the curveball was a video for Opiate that was presumably supposed to be part of that reissue. This may get a proper release soon
  • A working title for one of the new songs is Bouncing Arab.
  • Danny named Rosetta Stoned as the most difficult Tool song to play live.
  • Blair gave the hint “REAL2REEL” in regards to Problem 8. Danny mentioned that there may be such a thing, but didn’t go as far as to validate what Blair was talking about.
  • Danny talked about both Pigmy Love Circus and ZAUM and in particular the likelihood of either releasing something new. He didn’t discount the idea, nor are there any current plans.

That’s about it for now. Nothing to groundbreaking, but a good listen regardless. When a link for the full podcast becomes available I’ll try and remember to post it..

“There are no plans for other Tool (non-album) releases or reissues at this time…”

This and they’re still working on the epic 20 minute song from a year ago… and the curve ball is a video. I’m depressed.

Could it be possible that reel2reel might mean something as simple as doing an album release on cassette tape? A shit ton of bands are doing that now and it’s cheap and there’s less risk of it being leaked and it would slow the sharing process… I mean… reel to reel has always meant tape in my world and TOOL being the audiophiles that they are I’m sure they record straight to tape any time they do an album I’m sure there’s very little digital recording involved. For one, tape always sounds better and for 2… Oh fuck I just… Read more »

Can everyone please get a grip and realise that Zwerewolf is 100% right in his speech/concept that a band like Tool are looking to release their first album in 9+ years on a cassette tape…

well, i told myself not to think but the other thing with ”reel2real” that crossed my mind was real3D. thats what the theatre type of 3D is right. so maybe thats why its spelt that way? who knows.. its ok that i thought but i shouldnt think!!! lol 😛

A lot of naysayers around here bob… better be careful with your speculation otherwise they might say “NO”… because they are the ones who really truly NO anything that’s going on with TOOL…

its ok ZwereWolf, i appreciate the comment and stuff . when this place had more people it was like other forums with jerks being insulting and all the rest of it but that was ok. if it is a 3D thing this will be funny but if it was real3d thats the theatre type so it prob is a no..just saying its what came to mind so i figured i might as well post it. The ”told myself not to think” thing i gotta give credit to my friend D-man. he says that sometimes and its pretty funny.

cheers man!

My point is, we can’t write anything off. There’s nothing that says they can’t release their album on cassette tape is there? There’s also still nothing that says they will release it on cassette tape… It’s speculation that’s all in good fun. Some people around here take everything straight to their ass because they feel that they are the superior fans. Maybe because they think they are really decrypting Blairs hokem or maybe because they shook one of the members hands at some point or even shook their dick for them at the urinal. The fact of the matter is… Read more »

“Bouncing Arab” Hmmmmm, I hope we dont get an album full of Maynard and Company political views and ideas…. THAT WOULD SUCK! Just a good metal jam record would be great. Who needs to hear about political ideas and opinions… I dont mind opinions, I just hope I can listen through it without having to hear about how bad of a president we have, or how terrible Bush was, or how we handle National Security, or how we take care of Global Warming and the oil and gas industires…BLAH BLAH FUCKING BLAH…. JUST FUCKING ROCK THE FUCK OUT WITHOUT SOME… Read more »

I might have to agree with the fact that a “politically fueled” album wouldn’t be the way to go considering 10,000 Days had enough of that in my opinion…. however, considering the global political and economic climate it might be hard to overlook something like that from an artist stand point… maybe…. It seems to be what a vast amount of run of the mill bands are doing lately so I hope that they stray from it. Who knows what’s in store for this album. The bar was set the highest with Lateralus and still hasn’t been topped. A 20+… Read more »

i think it was danny, might have been maynard though, it was like totes foreves ago, that said 10k Days was their political album. i seem to remember reading that in the days leading up to the release of the album. vicarious and the pot both had some political undercurrents but other than that im not sure. its kind of hard to point to the theme of 10k days in my opinion. i also highly doubt that there is really going to be a song called bouncing arab

I think it was Danny who actually said that 10, 000 Days was their ‘blues’ album, not their political album. I remember him joking that they were “singing the blues” this time around back in 2006. Don’t know if that’s what you were referring to but I’m pretty sure they called it their blues album.

having a song being called “Bouncing Arab” is a reference to the sound of the song i am sure. The song may have some middle eastern sounding guitar/bass, or maybe percussion, and it has a “bounce” to it.

I would bet anything it has nothing to do with lyrics or even lyrical ideas. Tool is very good at keeping politics out of their music, and i’m glad for that.

I’m willing to bet Bouncing Arab is the song they jammed on before Schism during the 2012 tour

Hey all, I’ve just joined Fourtheye after keeping up to date on Tool news for a while now through these forums. Thanks for hosting a great site, Hellboy. Throughout the past week or so I’ve been looking into Problem 8 references in attempt to narrow the search and possibly find a specific direction that should be considered for finding the hidden track (if it even exists, of course). See what you guys think. Remember this is speculation and is possibly completely off. There seems to be a recurring theme appearing in the clues given, many of which seem to have… Read more »

this applies to everything about TOOL and LIFE in general. The secret is so simple and blatant that when you find out you are so annoyed because you realize every single person around you won’t believe it.
