A mysterious post appeared on Toolband over the weekend with nothing other than “Wait for it…” and a small orange dot being posted. “Wait for what?” is the obvious question here, but it appears there are a couple of possibilities.
Rumours (I have no insight into the source except it comes from a Tool Army fan page on Facebook) suggest that Tool might be headlining the Monster Mash Music Festival in Tempe, Arizona in October. Given that the lineup announcement (rumoured to also include Primus) for this festival is due on Monday, it would appear this is a relatively likely scenario.
That said, we know that Blair has been dropping hints that the curveball is almost ready in recent newsletters. Could it be curveball related?
Regardless of which scenario eventuates on Monday, a few questions remain – will a festival date in October also come with a tour? History suggests that Tool don’t often play one off dates, so I’d expect a mini-tour to happen as well. Recent newsletter references to Rance Q. Spartley, who’s name being mentioned often correlates to tour announcements suggest this might happen.
Are Tool touring again before releasing an album? If the show happens then this would appear the most likely scenario, unless of course the curveball is that they’ve secretly recorded the album and will have it out in time. Tool members have suggested they won’t tour again until a new album comes out, but I think even the most optimistic among us see this as an unlikely scenario.
What do the Fourtheye collective think?
could just be a reference to the solstice? the gold dot being the sun? bmb games
Hopefully it’s not the festival or the solstice. The mention of the bug man recently leads me to believe, naively of course, that this is related to the curveball.
Baseball is all about the suspense… wait for it…
Light at end of tunnel?
It seems we still haven’t learned to expect the very least from Tool.
One measly gig (in October where they will play no new songs, just the standard set that most have heard if they have seen them perform more than once in the last 9 years?) sounds about right.
I think most of us know what to expect – there’s nothing wrong with showing a little optimism though.
It’s not like you’re in some kind of elite club where only you can see what Tool will actually do.
Yeah well I was right, Hellboi.
So don’t be a cynical little fuck.
Hellboy is not the one being “a cynical little fuck.”
You’re being a gay fanboy?
Oh how you wish…
When I am looking at above line-up, I am almost certain that “wait for it-thing” does not refer to Monster Mash Festival. It is hard to believe (at least for me) that Tool would share stage with John Fogerty or Rob Zombie/Halestorm.
Granted it’s a goofball lineup, but they’re supposed to play Saturday. All other acts you’re looking at is on Friday and Sunday.
Oh… I didn’t notice it. Anyway, I hope they will focus on writing/arraning instead of playing gigs.
So you are totally incorrect aren’t you, idiot?
You aren’t going to pick up gay fanboys with that mouth.
I am afraid the curve ball s gonna be the biggest shit ever 😀
Just noticed this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5ZKl3U_sQE About 5:20 into Hooker With A Penis (first track), Adam goes on a little solo and it’s the riff he looped 3 times and posted on Toolarmy a few months ago. Sorry if it’s been mentioned before but I knew I had heard that riff before. I reckon they are dying to release something new very soon. Maybe the ‘Wait for it…” post is saying a whole bunch of good shit is about to go down. I still remember Blair’s low-key announcement of ‘10,000 days’ being the new album name back in early 2006. Got a… Read more »
I’m certainly hopeful that it is album / curveball (live album/video?) related. But it’s not like they built a lot of hype. It’s a few words and an orange dot posted shortly before they announce whatever. I’ll be a bit bummed if it is a festival date, but we tend to build up even a tiny bit of hype as huge.
Safe to say most of us have been waiting for it for quite some time. So we hardly need instruction to continue to wait for it. This applies whether the “it” turns out to be the new album, the next tour, Salival Part II, a live DVD, a website update, official Tool pillow shams to match the official Tool blankets, or whatever else they can dream up…
whoa! Wait for it… could it be tool related news? hope so! It could be anything, we would love to have the new album as a surprise… 🙂 It could be a tour yeah,,, that will be streamed live with pro-shot… curveball come to us now!! …please.
It is obvious. Justin is going to be a guest on this weekend’s NPR Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me!
Nah, I am sure the Monster Fest is right. Blair always writes in Orange for Halloween.
Although I wouldnt be surprised to see a failure, puscifer, primus, tool lineup for Saturday. Which would obviously be an insanely awesome Halloween show.
Throw in Eagles of Death Metal and A Perfect Circle and call it a party.
And Black Pussy.
I still hold to what I’ve been saying the whole time… This album is being recorded secretly as an attempt to prevent a leak. It’s going to smack us in the face like a ton of bricks… or the weight of a double album…
OP TI MI SM
i really really hope so! That would be epic from their side and a good counter to all Tool Trolls.
BMB finally announcing retirement from tool website so there could be first update since 2000.
Yeah, because Blair’s the one holding everything back.
Tootl and Primus on October 31st indeed.
Would Tootl be progressive fart rock, er…?
What I stated earlier in this thread proved accurate.
Learn to expect the very least…
“Bitch, moan, bitch, moan, bitch, moan…” Yeah I guess you were right!
I may have to go to this show. Why not.
130 days until Tool wows us with another run of the mill setlist? Or another 130 days until Tool wows us with a shortened, festival-style run of the mill setlist? I thought the Mexico shows last year would’ve drawn out something out of the ordinary, something along the lines of DispoReflectoTriado or a lengthy trippy jam of some kind, the setting called for it, but no. If we don’t get a chance to swing at the curveball until Halloween, well, Blair can plain old SAFNA. How I wish the days of the internet were gone, the only news we’d have… Read more »
He actually entertains many of us.
Well It has taken me years to finally get a clear source..
Definitely not the curveball..album drops october27..watch
Are you angry at me for being totally correct, Hellboy?
“No, you’re just an asshole, Walter!”
I’ve actually had my first occurrence of completely not giving a shit about Tool. This announcement didn’t stir anything at all. I feel like I should be sad about that but I just don’t care. The fire’s out. I think I’ve done it, I’m finally moving on.
/continues to check FE and TA every day
Damn, so close.
I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who thinks this is ridiculous news. They should be spending that time in the studio instead of wasting it on stage. Ugh. This album will just never be done.
I guess Hellboi missed this garbage too? ttp://youtu.be/2K5Chbehcx4
Why am I updating people on this forum of actual news, Hellboi?
The obvious answer would be that some of us have lives outside of just trolling on the internet.
Trolling with actual facts?
Please tell the whole forum how this equals trolling… http://youtu.be/2K5Chbehcx4
“Bitch, moan, bitch, moan..”
Easy. Nobody likes reading your whiny posts.
Aww you so upset
