The organisers of the Aftershock Festival, held in Sacramento, California on the 22nd and 23rd of October have posted an image of a bottle of Caduceus Anubis 2011 as well as a suggestion that the lineup will drop next Tuesday. Â Perhaps they really love Maynard’s wine, or possibly it’s a hint that one of his bands will be included on the bill.

Many of you would be familiar with the rumour that Tool are playing Voodoofest in New Orleans, which happens to be the following weekend. Â There is also some speculation that there will be a very short Tool tour with this, and while I have nothing concrete to back it up, I wonder if we’ll see the Aftershock Festival, a couple of Tool shows between California and New Orleans, and then the Voodoofest to wind it all up.
I posted on your May Newsletter post (on May 26th) that a friend of mine got a chance to talk to Danny at Complex Glendale a couple weekends back (at a Volto show) and Danny confirmed that Tool is playing Aftershock and Voo Doo and that these 2 shows will be the last of 5 shows that Tool are playing this “tour”.
Great news.
My gamble on Voodoo early bird tickets purchased for $99 back in December is going to pay off handsomely.
Tool on Halloween weekend for the second year in a row!
I also expect Prophets of Rage and LCD Soundsystem to be there.
Wouldn’t surprise me if Misfits show up and/or NIN/RHCP since both have new material on the way.

NIN and Tool together on the same lineup would be my dream!! However, as most music festivals go these days, expect a heavy presence of Electronic Music. Maybe LCD Soundsystem will fulfill some of this but I couldn’t see a major music festival booking NIN and TOOL together just because of that fact. Both are expensive and would take money away from other potential big acts such as Calvin Harris, Skrillex, etc…. I hope to eat my words though…..
I’ve compiled a lot of bands that sound like or openly imitate Tool. There’s an Argentinan band called Samadhi Band that by far does the best job for me as serving as a Tool surrogate. I feel at times they openly lift many parts of Tool songs, and I have no problem with that. My favorite song from them right now is ‘Soma’
Heh heh, just listened to a few of their songs. Like someone commented on Youtube… It’s like listening to Tool in some other Spanish-speaking universe. That guy sounds just like fucking Maynard, Maynard with a bowl of guacamole in his pants.
Yet, in my opinion, they don’t even come close to Tool! A good reminder of just how damn good they (Tool) are and the new album will be nothing short of amazing…
That’s cool. I’m enjoying it quite a bit,- it’s working for me. Cool that you at least tried it. The best Tool substitute I’ve found and I’ve most likely tried them all.
Goliath by Karnivool. Great song tho…
Karnviool’s entire catalog is worth checking out for sure. I always recommend them to people I see wearing Tool shirts.
Also worth checking out:

Did either of you check out Samadhi Band?
Thanks. I agree. I have everything by both bands.
I checked them out. Even there videos are “similar” but overall kind of a generic/diet tool.
Another extremely raw band that reminds of tool is Rishloo. They have 3-4 tracks that blow me away but may not be for everyone. Lead singer has some pipes though.

Recommended Rishloo tracks:
Off the Eidelon record:
El Empe
Alchemy Alice
And pretty much the entire Feathergun album (start there – it’s their best work).
Enjoy and @ out…
