As Blair hinted at in the January 2017 newsletter, he has also updated the one from September 2016. Â For those with short memories, September 2016 was the infamous “positive thinking” one. Â Blair mentions recent interviews with Justin, Danny’s appearance on the Seth Meyers show and even Adam at recent VIP outings as good evidence that the next Tool album is indeed a thing.
I doubt this is changing anyone’s mind though – I don’t expect that any of the skeptics are going to change their mind. Â I for one am content to wait for whatever may come. Â I’m obviously a huge Tool fan, but life is not so empty that a lack of Tool albums becomes an object of scorn or hate.
Instead I look forward to seeing Puscifer here in Adelaide in a couple of nights time (there’s even a free wine tasting in town before hand).  I’ll continue to enjoy the large number of quality releases from other artists.  Code Orange may have already released an album I might have on my top 10 of 2017 (we’ll see in 12 months time I guess!)
I agree a lot with you here.
People need to chill.
I am gonna be positive and say the album has been delayed a year but is now ready. Judging by his book MJK probably has an APC lp, Puscifer lp, wine, wrestling, kung fu and jogging all wrapped up too. Good lad.
“The cake is a lie…”
More and more it seems like Tool is the band version of that relationship where you have good chemistry (sexually) but cannot make real life work out and you get together as a facade to have sex, or in Tools case, make money. Everything else is lip service or maybe even meager attempts to build something out of it, but deep down there’s nothing really moving forward.
Well, that was therapeutic.
Great insight into your life DRURY, dont really see how that plays into this dynamic, but thanks for playing.
Maynard is going to make some really good money this year. Wow.
I think I remember A Perfect Circle did some tour dates back in December 2000 and Lateralus came out in May, 2001. So maybe Tool have already recorded their new album (they’ve definitely had some time) and Maynard has a little extra freedom before Tool’s new record comes out. Maybe Tool have already recorded material and Maynard has added vocals. I also think they’ve been deliberately shady with us with a long time now. Keep things very quiet until it is ‘done’ and then make announcements. If this album is “cooking” and “it’s in the oven”, it can’t be in… Read more »
It’s definitely coming, no doubt about that (in my mind at least anyway). I don’t think there has been any secret recording though. Maynard doesn’t seem like the type to pull punches when it comes to Tool, so when he says he doesn’t have the music yet, then I’m inclined to believe him.
That doesn’t mean they aren’t further down the road then when Maynard last said “I’m still waiting”, but I don’t believe a release is imminent either.
As a skeptic, it’s not about hate. It never has been. At this point it’s only WTF. There is no good reason for 10+ years oth. That’s all.
Got cut off. 10+ years other than its not fun for them anymore. That’s all.
And those fucking cairns…. maybe those rocks didn’t want to be stacked in the first place. Maybe they should’ve been left where the universe left them.
Are the movement of rock by man any less valid that movement of rocks via water, wind or gravity? Perhaps the universe meant it that way?
Perhaps and perhaps the universe meant for them to be stacked by some poor soul and knocked over by another. But for Blair to claim to know which is better is foolish.
I missed the part where Blair claims to know which is better…
There’s a fine line though…is there a difference when man moves smaller rocks like that to moving huge swaths of earth like for man made ponds or buildings? Both are done by man, both are earth. I propose there’s no difference for purpose of conversation. What about cutting down trees?
Oh no I’m starting to sound like him…
When was Adam seen in the recording studio with Motorhead? Wasn’t that clip like February 2015 or something? There’s another photo I think from the loft back in October of 2015 with all 4 band members excited that something was ‘done’. I also wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve recorded bits & pieces along the way but just told us very little so as to avoid speculation & misleading stories. Everything is done in time with them but also mostly in secret. I just find it very hard to believe that in 10+ years Maynard hasn’t had any music/material from them… Read more »
You’re thinking could seem reasonable except that those studio visits have been confirmed as not relating to the new album.
Unless the band has explicitly lied to us (which would be unusual), they were probably recording for some special release, such as the extended version of Opiate or some Salival-type thing.
I’m pretty sure that they were just recording something for Opiate.
There’s supposed to be a music video for the song.
But there was supposed to be a music video for The Pot but we got nothing, so… who knows…
You’re not wrong about Code Orange. Forever is one of the best albums that I have heard in the last few months for sure. Got to catch them live in Chicago this past week too, one of the most intense shows I’ve been to in a long time
Adam just posted something interesting on Instagram… “#onefingerchallenge”
A legit post about another arrangement being complete that, while quelling any hopes of April 21 being the album release, does show that they are most definitely being active.
@ out…
Stinkfist
Assuming that April 21 is actually going to be something (I’m not getting my hopes up), I’d expect the Opiate re-recording the most likely candidate.
I think it’s safe to say the release YEAR st the earliest is now 2018.
