Another Danny Carey update on new Tool album

There’s another update from Danny Carey in regards to the new Tool album floating around, and this is courtesy of Drum Magazine:

“It’s gonna be really good,” he said. “We’re really excited about it. We’re getting really close, too. We’re probably going to write the rest of this year and then start tracking early in the new year. So, it’ll be out some time in 2018.”

Good news it seems, and would suggest that Maynard is underway with his part of the songwriting process.  Of course Maynard is well known for hosing down the other members of Tool in regards to progress, so lets take with a pinch of salt for now.

The rest of the interview is interesting, and probably skipped over by many.  Danny talks about Legend of the Seagullmen as well as a new kit that Sonor are working with him on.

Say what you will, Naysayers … it’s coming next year.

Now let’s talk first listen rituals … mushrooms, edibles or sober?

Alcohol on first listen. Hopefully on vinyl and I will have a select few people invited to a listening party.

Good food, wine, beer & spirits. Complete silence from anybody attending while music is on.

I’ll probably have some smoke available as well. Then follow-up with a session with another friend on shrooms down the road. Need to get familiarized with the album first.

Snacks on the table, ass on the sofa, beer in my hand, stereo on.

First-listen with Tool usually ends with thinking “What the fuck was that?”

Best news I’ve heard in 2000+ Days! LOL
Starting to feel like a douche for past complaints

I’m reservedly excited

We should all just keep a lid on until we get more sufficient confirmation. We can’t take their word for it as history will show. But yes, it feels like there should be reason for excitement.

I’ll be sitting in my brother’s Audi while hanging with our friend Timothy Leary. That fucker has about fifty speakers in it and sounds awesome. Made the mistake back in college to listen to Lateralus (when they released it at midnight) with a few friends in the apartment, shitty sound system and the same brother with the Audi barged in from some party across the street. Car, Leary, and time to kill… Believe Maynard said it takes about five listens to get the feel for their albums. Very true.

Absolutely true! The first time I heard Ænima I was almost disappointed, I sat there thinking “what the hell was that?” I don’t know if I can still follow this band. Then I played it a few more times. Might be my favorite album.

This is potentially good news BUT I also will keep myself in check until they actually start recording.

I’ll be sober when I listen, no major hallucigens or anything.

Dog fart whip-its….I’ve had a ritual since Aenima to bottle a dirty fart on the release date and hit it upon first listen of the next album. So, this one will be 12 years old when it happens. It’s gonna be so good!

New kit for Danny? Nice, excited to see what they’ll create.

Btw: It’s called Sonor, not Sonar.
