I don’t always wish band members Happy Birthday on here any more, but since I was sent a special photo by reader slaamri I have a nice photo of some signed merch to share.
From slaamri to Danny:
Happy birthday from France!
And I know the sentiment is expressed worldwide! Hopefully all those at the Tool show this evening will give him a solid rendition of Happy Birthday to You.
There’s also a few snaps of the great man from Blair on Facebook:
I think we will come to find that the image shown on the screens of with the album release date will be either the album cover art, or a part of it.
The ‘Olympic’ styled torch fits in very well with the Roman theme we have seen with the numerals.
Too many factors coming together for it all to be coincidental.
My sources indicate that the torch is not the album cover, and probably not even part of the album art.
Have they indicated what it may ?
Only in vague terms that I’m not prepared to delve into.
Without giving anything away. Do you approve of the concept that was imparted to you?
Not really enough information given to make a decision one way or the other. It sounds cool, but not especially groundbreaking, though in fairness the artwork was spoken of in somewhat broad terms. How it all comes together as a package is somewhat unknown.
As far as I can tell from what I’ve been told, none of it has been seen by the public yet.
Have you been informed of the album title?
No
Someone on another forum mentioned it was a part of an older Grey painting, but no one has actually named it yet. Somebody ought to dig through their copy of Transfigurations and try to find it.
Hellboy, first thank you for this site I’ve been visiting for years now rarely post mostly lurk but it’s my go to for Tool. Anyways, any truth to the rumors of a movie that goes along with the album (ala The Wall) Maybe some collaboration of Adam Jones and another director. The comment that Justin said this is the biggest project of his life as well as the incredibly long wait. Also I thought it would be sooner than August 30th considering the album is mastered and they have revealed two songs both north of 11 minutes already. Also maybe… Read more »
David Lynch would be the best director for the job.
I’ve heard nothing that reliably backs up the theory that there is a film to accompany the album. At this stage I’d be surprised if there were, but not doubt there should be some new videos and/or live footage created for the shows.
Ok thanks! Also do you think Decending and invincible will be available for DL earlier than the album, which maybe you can pre-order and get the two songs. Sort of like what APC did with “the doomed” then “Dissolutioned” before ETE was released? I’m not big on vinyl but will def try to grab a copy just for the artwork etc… Thanks again. Keep rocking.
~Mike
Im predicting the album will be called What Did The Romans Ever Do For Us?
It all makes sense now.
“Go sit in the corner and work on your polyrhythms.”
“But Dad, I’m tired. I want to sleep.”
“Have you summoned the Devil yet?”
*Sigh – sits at kit*
With regard to the “biggest project of our lives” remark by Justin, I think putting songs like Invincible together would be particularly time consuming. It’s 12 minutes of pretty intricate work. I’m no musician but there is a LOT going on in that one song.
Hopefully though that “biggest project” comment is also referring to the artwork, packaging, live visuals etc. I think they are holding back some seriously impressive artwork (music and visuals) until August 30 when they will blow us away.
Descending and Invincible are two very good appetizers thus far though 🙂
I agree. I just felt it was an interesting remark for a guy who was part of such epic pieces such as Third Eye, Rosetta Stoned and Wings/10,000 days, and what I believe to be the greatest album of all time Lateralus. So I was thinking there was something extra added, not that I need it because the music is just beyond compare. I play regularly, and damn they have churned out some masterpieces I love to play along with. The new stuff like you said is quiet intricate, but has always been. Learning Decending now and it’s as fun… Read more »
Does anyone know how I can find that octagonal thing holding the drumhead in the picture above?
I have a signed DC drum head that my dad mounted in a shadow box, but the one above looks amazing.
It’s an enneagon and it looks a lot like a Synesthesia Corp Mandala 2.0 from years ago. Danny uses them. Guessing, I’d say it’s probably a replica just to hold the drum head.
Thanks for replying and thanks again for the info!
I’m sitting here wondering when the new “Opiate” music video is going to be released…
Probably on a Salival type thing in a couple years.
Tool won’t give anything away free.
Anyone know about how long band release singles before albums drop?
There’s no real answer to this. Can range from months in advance to not at all. What Tool are going to do in regards to a single is anyone’s guess, but I personally don’t think they will release anything until after the European tour is complete.
