Tool confirm they might play new music this tour

There was a new Tweet overnight from Tool’s account, which suggests that new material is definitely on the cards for this coming tour:

Most importantly, Maynard will have a new costume! What could it be?

Fingers crossed this new material is made available to the rest of us before the tour starts. It would suck to first hear it via crappy youtube clips.

Yet, it will be amazing for all of us who are attending the live shows in hopes of seeing them debut new material….live (specifically Jacksonville).

And, you can avoid YouTube at any time 🙂

^True, this happened with Jambi and The Pot at Coachella back in 2006 as ‘live debuts’ of new songs. Vicarious had already been leaked etc.

Vicarious was released as the single before everything else leaked, right?

Going to see the first arena show in Birmingham on May 7th. Should be enlightening. This will be my 7th time seeing them live. You could really sense they’d polished their presentation in all areas back when I saw them in 2016. Will be interesting to hear something they’ve not rehearsed as much.

I think they might release a single beforehand. But am I the only one who doesn’t care if they do? Sure, I’d love a single. But wouldn’t mind some shitty YouTube clips that let me enjoy it, and if a single is released after, then I can really appreciate what was missed from said recording.

That said, I think we will get a single this week!

So jacked up for these shows now!

Could the guitar choice signal a release date somehow?

I don’t think we anything at all before the tour. The tweet did say they might play new music. I think we get “more” Descending. Similar to Adam’s Post, a tad longer. Nothing complete. Not Tool’s style. Why work so hard to not get anything leaked and then reveal a song so we can all see it on YouTube? That said, I hope I’m wrong. That extra bit of riffage gave me goosebumps today. I need this new music in my life

Off topic. Hellboy75, last night I reluctantly saw the new Hellboy movie. I was pleasantly surprised due to the poor critic reviews. The movie was very METAL, lots of gore, blood and dark. A lot of guitar riffs and freaky awesome monsters. That shit was tight. I’m glad I saw it. Have you seen the new movie? If so, any opinion?

All signs are pointing towards at least one new song being played at the weekend, obviously some type of version of Descending, if not the full version. If it’s not wide released before Sunday then youtube clips it is.

I’d say the band themselves are a bit overplaying the same songs and are probably keen to change up their set list with new material. Fingers crossed.

A while back, Maynard said something in an interview to the effect of, “The music industry is changing with leaks and streaming services and if you don’t get off your lazy ass and tour then you’re not gonna have a caralog.” So, maybe they’re going to approach the release of this album with a focus on promoting it live.

I think you can safely change the title of this thread to, “Tool confirm they will play new music this tour” Ain’t no way in hell they put out that meme and don’t play something new…

Dunno how he will be dressed but I wasnt keen on the suit look with last APC tour. It would be good if he was front and centre again instead of hiding at the back.

You’ll never see him out front again with this band. He’s said as much in plenty of quotes/interviews over the years. He feels being front and center like most lead singers takes away from the visual aspects of their show. Plus he likes letting his bandmates shine. Also, he says cigarette smoke when he’s up front affects the quality of his voice, though that kind of smoke less of an issue in most places these days. Might not should’ve said never as you never say never, but I highly doubt it. He likes being in the dark with TOOL, much… Read more »
