While a bunch of Tool fans were inexplicably getting bent out of shape of the lack of a post regarding an almost 20 year old album, Adam Jones posted some interesting guitar related news on Instagram:
It’s hard to be sure, but it sound like Adam will be getting some kind of custom axe from Gibson, and it would be easy to assume that it’d be Silverburst in nature. Does this mean that a signature edition will be available for fans to purchase? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
PS. I don’t think anyone should panic about the lack of a album update today. Good news is coming, and it’s coming soon.
They are just trolling the fans… as usual.
I think it less trolling, more unbridled expectations. The absurdity is that even if we expected the next part of the countdown, it’s just Lateralus rather than something more meaningful. Let’s save our outrage for when they’ve at least posted 10,000 Days.
Well…they just posted Lateralus.
Well, allow me to be the one to thank you, Hellboy. I appreciate you posting this, because I don’t have Instagram, and I think it’s amazing news that Adam may be getting a custom Gibson made!!! Awesome!!!
I’m totally owning getting bent out of shape. Nothing wrong about being excited over an imminent album announcement. Some of the posts over on Tool Reddit are piss funny, though.
Excitement is great! I’m excited too! But let’s apply a bit of common sense, and wait until we know new album news is imminent, rather than blowing our loads early when there’s clearly a few more social media posts to go.
Interesting… Justin had his custom Warwick made what two years ago now? I can see Adam having a custom guitar made but he’s so in love with those 80’s Silverbursts. They don’t age to that green color anymore either. Whatever that metallic flake was that they used in the 80’s is no longer used. I wonder what he’s up to? I can’t see him going down the route of a signature guitar for mass production but I could be wrong. Either way, I’m purchasing a Dunable at the end of the year. As much as I love the Jones Tone,… Read more »
I find it interesting myself. Being a guitar player for 15+ years last year I bought a 1986 Gibson LPC Silverburst with the yellowed tinge. It’s beautiful and was kept in mint condition (except the yellowing which I personally love. Sort of umm… Smogburst, or Pot-smokeburst?). Adam has always had less than kind things to say about Post 80’s Gibsons. Also, Gibson’s current PR is at a pretty low point with it’s customers. Maybe they reached out to him in this case.
Agreed! Those green/yellow tinges that came along with that flake looks very awesome! When you see it you know it’s the real deal that’s for sure. What did you pay for yours in mint condition!? Those things mint can range from like $6k-$15K! As for Gibson… Man they have had a bad run the last few years haven’t they!? I went to NAMM 2018 and they weren’t even there which is just crazy. Of course, Adam is working with the custom shop so I’m sure whatever comes out of that will be top notch. I should have purchased a Dunable… Read more »
I paid on the lower end of that figure haha. I sold my LPC copy to cover part of the purchase. I just wonder what the pricing would be for his custom shop version if that’s what they do.
A lot of stuff you said was inaccurate there. If Adam is working on a custom model they could have been testing ageing processes on it over the last few years if he is desperate for his model to eventually age that way. The metallic flake could easily be formulated again, it’s probably just a case of no one really being interested in making their signature model that way yet. A signature model based on Adam’s total obsession with these era of guitars would be very interesting and also annoying because they will be incredibly expensive. I own a 1988… Read more »
Maybe we should start a Facebook petition to storm the Tool loft if they continue to make wait for information….
