Revolver Interview and Album Art update

As the ever moving Tool hype train hurtles further out of control, in the last couple of days we’ve gathered some further information about Tool’s upcoming Fear Inoculum.

First up is a recent interview with all 4 members of the band in the September 2019 issue of Revolver Magazine. Adam, Justin, Danny and Maynard all speak about their respective journeys in the last 12 years, and what it’s taken to write a new album. It’s a pretty interesting read if you’re keen to hear from the members of the band.

It’s relatively light on details on the new album however, though it does reveal that there is reportedly 85 minutes of music, with 7 songs + 2 segues. I’m not actually sure how 85 minutes fits onto a single CD, so will take this report with some light skepticism for now.

The other piece of news of interest from the article is the suggestion that Alex Grey may have contributed to the album art after all. Adam says:

we approached Alex Grey at about the same time he approached us. And he was very into doing something with us again. We talked and he had this thing called The Great Turn, and it’s basically this being that has two sides.

The good new is that Adam mentioned an Instagram story today that the artwork will be out “tomorrow”. I expect this should be sometime in the next 12 to 24 hours. Perhaps we’ll also get some solid details on the package including pre-order details!

I believe the technology is there to have CDs longer than 80 minutes. The problem is older CD drives cannot read them. Also some trivia (IIRC) the original time standard on a CD was set because the president of Sony wanted to hear Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony on a single side.

Or, they could do a CD with a code for a download on a song or two. Doesn’t seem like something Tool would do. Ya never know.

I remember having a few CD’s that were double sided back in the day. Would certainly take away from the artistic aspect of it though. Curious indeed…

The $66.66 box set shed is referring to is not the new album. It’s a special edition box set of four alternate covers of Revolver: https://www.revolvermag.com/magazine/tool-appear-cover-revolvers-new-augsept-issue

August 7 for art reveal and both Adam and Band’s IG accounts mention title track (presumably eponymous) – does this mean we get a new track tomorrow!?

Adam also says “special packaging version is EPIC!”

The art is up on their Instagram currently. A bluish spiral of eyes?

It looks like a blue spiral of eyes. Maybe more will be revealed with the full packaging which is rumored to be epic. Lead title track and pre orders coming Thursday (AUD). Damn!!
