Puscifer drop new track Apocalyptical

New music from Maynard this morning, with Puscifer dropping the first track off their coming album. The track Apocalyptical is available for streaming on the usual streaming platforms.

Update: There’s now a video which you can find at the end of this post. Also noted in the video is:

PUSCIFER INVASION
PREPARE TO BE ABDUCTED
NEW ALBUM FALL 2020
WORLD TOUR 2021

Interested to hear your thoughts in the comments! Personally after a quick listen it doesn’t sound like it’s pushing any new ground, but nor do I dislike it.

Any other way you could post a stream? Spotify isn’t offering it yet in the US.

I feel the same way. Nothing groundbreaking, but I don’t mind it. Aside from hard/heavy music, I enjoy “alternative” type stuff as well and this fits right into that. Anything new from one of my favorite artists is welcomed – especially these days.

Kinda disappointing. Lacks melody, dynamics and drags on with Maynard doing little more than dropping some finger-waggling, I-told-you-so type message. This feels like something that was thrown together in two months to be topical.

IMO: Maynard’s got to stop posturing from intellectual high-ground. I don’t feel it serves him well artistically.

I’m hopeful that there will be at least a little bit more to be wrung out of the album that sounds like it had a longer time to cook and came more off the heels of Tool finally releasing an album rather than a growing pandemic.

Never been able to get into Puscifer and this song doesn’t convince me to keep trying.

The Puscifer fanbase seems to largely be a subset of the Tool/APC fanbase and aside from the obvious cases of fans that will consume anything MJK touches, it’s hard to tell what makes this project appealing or not. Personally, the quirky/silly early start to the project didn’t have much lasting appeal but I appreciated that he wanted to go a complete 180 and treat it more loosely. I managed to find appealing tracks here and there through ‘C is for’ and Conditions which kept me paying attention. My wife loves some of the… Read more »
