Maynard talks Puscifer and other current events with Joe Rogan

Maynard James Keenan had another lengthy chat with Joe Rogan on his regular podcast. With Puscifer’s next album Existential Reckoning, the focus (for music fans anyway) is very much on that part of Maynard’s updates.

They touch on a range of other topics though, including the inevitable COVID discussions, Borat and other bits of popular culture.

Probably the most interesting tidbit that I can across that’s Tool related is when he talks about having COVID which he likely had while in Australia and New Zealand earlier this year. He talks of being ill just before heading across to Auckland, and then having to adjust the set to compensate for his voice (I’d note it only seems Parabol/a was dropped). It would seem to me that other members of Tool and their crew were lucky to not also contract it.

I’m afraid that I will suicide if he doesn’t also talk about wine, martial arts, and his fondness of successfully multitasking, and balancing workflows.

he said “eat a d!©k” twice … what more could we really want? At least this time it was psychedelic wine.

It was a boring and stupid interview, in my opinion. I’m looking forward to the Arcosanti show. I wish musicians would shut the fuck up when it comes to politics, though. It’s embarrassing. Normally, MJK is quite reasonable so I was caught a little off guard.

I really dislike when people think that skin colour and type of genitals somehow makes a person qualified for anything where those things don’t matter. The lunacy must stop. I’m in Canada but I believe this is a universal problem. At least he didn’t go down a Trump derangement spiral. I like what Maynard says at his shows about the true enemy being ignorance. I love that.

I prefer that to be true. How did you interpret it?

Haha. Yeah, that’s the crap I dislike. The problem in this case is that he’s talking about someone that could become the most powerful politician in the world. It’s fine, everyone has their opinion and I can respect that.

I’m in the US (California) and Maynard seems to be disconnected from what’s going on in politics just like any celebrity. TDS is real and it just becomes more apparent that Joe Rogan is just catering to whomever is in front of him. The fact that Joe Rogan (I’m making sure I say Joe Rogan so nobody confuses it for Joe Biden) refuses to call out Spotify employees on their bullshit is beyond me. The fact that Joe R. left California because of the same bullshit that Spotify is condoning is a telling sign that he’s a bullshit artist. The… Read more »

How is that a pathetic way to look at it? He’s isolated out there in Jerome. He’s just watching this shit on TV. I can drive to downtown Sacramento right now and see boarded up windows, businesses disappearing on the daily. I was just in Monterey last week and the homeless are everywhere, they require masks on the street otherwise you’re subject to fines and there are store closures everywhere. Same goes for San Francisco which is even closer and way worse. I refuse to go there anymore. Maynard moved to Arizona not only looking for a place to grow… Read more »

I mean…you think it’s ridiculous that Maynard informs himself by watching tv…but you don’t, huh? You get your info from somewhere legit, but he doesn’t? Not sure Maynard is the one “falling for anything” in this situation.

I agree with everything that you said. I’d love to vote for Trump but I’m in Canada. I, too, don’t identify as either liberal or conservative. The last guy I voted for was a libertarian. Unfortunately we got the black face guy back in power. I watch Tulsi Gabbard destroy Harris. It was hilarious. I really hope Trump wins and continues with things like the 1776 Commission and abolishing sanctuary cities. Also, I’d love to see section 230 repealed. I live in Toronto and it’s a sanctuary city and our schools are full of commie BS. We need a Tump… Read more »

I’ll eat a little crow here because I’m not afraid to admit when I jump to conclusions… Joe Rogan had Alex Jones on the podcast (posted yesterday afternoon apparently) which I thought he was never going to do once he got the Spotify deal…

Bravo Joe Rogan Bravo.

Not really a fan of Alex Jones but I am a fan of free speech and Spotify was on the verge of choking the podcast.

We’ll see how Joe moves forward from here.

Good grief. It’s interesting what some of you take from a rational discussion about the state of the US in relation to regulation, governance and the availability of facts versus opinion and agenda. Maynard did say that the extreme right and left are bumping each others asses on the other side of the circle. The grinding is happening here as I read although the far left seems unrepresented. He also said that what he hasn’t seen in his lifetime was a black female president. That is a statement about desire for directional change and growth, not tokenism. And if Rogan having… Read more »

Wow thanks for bringing the shitty politics to the discussion here. And Joe Rogan is an annoying egotistical little twerp. F that dude. Boring….i think I listened to two of his visits with old Joe and could have fallen asleep. Never gets into what we want to hear about in depth which is tool. Who gives a shit about opinions about the rest – they carry as much weight as the rest of our viewpoints.

So… people are surprised that the bourgeoisie (this man lives on acreages of a private palace/vineyard) are disconnected from their concerns? Dont get me wrong, I love the music. But the band hasnt related to my head space for a couple decades. Lol.

fucks sake, really disappointed to see fellow Tool fans stating that they voted republican and have problems with Maynard openly expressing that he supports gender and racial diversity on it’s own merits.

Fuck Trump, fuck the republican party and fuck anyone who supports it. Democrats aren’t much better, but after the last year’s shit show over there, kids getting locked in cages, a pandemic killing thousands of people more than it needs to, and you fools are still blind. Open your fucking eyes, eat some mushrooms and go listen to Tool some more

I think the comments reflect that most people (at least most of these people here) can’t deal with someone having different views than them. It’s almost guaranteed that these same people would love if Maynard supported “their” candidates. I disagree that he is out of touch, simply because he is successful and lives in a rural area. This whole notion that musicians should talk about politics is just ridiculous. Why can’t they? They’re people, like everyone else.
