Danny talks up new songs and Live DVD

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, but according to a recent chat Danny Carey had with the Cleveland Scene, we can expect that new Tool music may not be too far away:

I’m sure it won’t take us this long for the next one. We even had some stuff left over from the last one that we’ll develop. We have head starts on three or four new songs

Ever the font of optimisim is Danny. Personally I don’t really care how long they take to make a record, and it’s nice at the very least to hear they’re not really planning on calling it a day any time soon.

He also mentions the much fabled Live DVD:

Carey says the group is also readying a live DVD that will be “a good mind blower for all the hardcore fans.”

“Most of it will be from the Lateralus tour from 2002,” he says.

Incredible stuff really! Now that they’ve got the curveball out of the way, it’s nice to see them finally clearing the decks!

With vinyl on the way, tours happening, and all this potentially on the cards, it seems to be a great time to be a Tool fan. While no one is likely to get too excited about immenent releases of a new album or Live DVD, it’s great to see them on the cards once more

Danny, oh Danny. I admire his unwavering optimism.

On the subject of the live DVD, I’m stoked they’re going to base it on the Lateralus tour. Since the initial Aenima tour here in Australia, I’ve seen them 11 times, and this is by far the finest they’ve ever been, truly mind-blowing. The energy they brought then was next level.
