In a recent Tool interview with Metal Hammer, Adam Jones and Maynard James Keenan catch up with Steve Appleford for a discussion about the recent US tour, Tool stuff and life in general. It’s a good read, though in some ways doesn’t have a heap of things we haven’t read before. I suppose the more interesting snippets for long time Tool fans relate to what’s coming up next.
Maynard indicates that a new record is a possibility, though they need to get on with it:
Do you think the experience of making Fear Inoculum will have any impact on the making of the next one?
“Well, considering one or more of us will be dead if we wait another 14 years, we might want to figure out a better way. So maybe figure out how to move faster. Make it the priority. You don’t have to skip any of the art part. You don’t have to skip any of the creative process, You just have to force yourself to be in the creative space more often and more consistently.
“Tool is a more complicated beast with shows ahead of making sure that I’m ready. You can’t have

a bunch of spicy food the night before a show or a day of show, or the show’s fucked. I have to really pay attention to that stuff.â€
With Danny heading out on the road with Beat later this year, I expect we probably won’t see much progress on songwriting for the remainder of 2024 It’s good to see some awareness of the clock ticking among the band though.
