The Melvins announced recently that they will be visiting six towns in the USA, playing a two night residency in each town. According to the blurb:
The upcoming performances will feature the same set list in each city with the first night kicking off with the band performing songs from Lysol and Egg Nog followed by a second set of music from Houdini. The second night in each mini-residency will be Bullhead for the first set and Stoner Witch for the second. There will be no opening artists for this tour.
Sounds pretty cool to me. Dates are:
- May 13 Seattle, WA – The Crocodile
- May 14 Seattle, WA – The Crocodile
- May 16 San Francisco, CA – Great American Music Hall
- May 17 San Francisco, CA – Great American Music Hall
- May 27 Austin, TX – Mohawk
- May 28 Austin, TX – Mohawk
- May 31 Chicago, IL – Double Door
- June 1 Chicago, IL – Double Door
- June 3 Boston, MA – Paradise Rock Club
- June 4 Boston, MA – Paradise Rock Club
- June 6 Brooklyn, NY – Music Hall of Williamsburg
- June 7 Brooklyn, NY – Music Hall of Williamsburg
Thanks to our buddies at I Heart Noise for the news!
Last time I saw the Melvins was at the Great American too, for Jello’s 50th. That was a great show. I’m going to have to hit one of these up!
wonder if they cross paths along the summer tour lines with billy and company
On May 17, they could have came closer to the central coast, so I could see them, instead of playing the same venue twice.
Bummer.

Yeah, but playing each venue twice is the basis for the whole tour…
fuck yeah chicago!
Kittaan – I’ll be at the S.F. shows!
^ Cool Jose, let’s grab a beer! You still have my #?
BTW, I’ll be hitting the first night, Monday, only. Other plans on Tues, unfortunately.
Kittaan i don’t have it since my phone went for a swim in Hawaii this last january. Will you send me a text with your name? I’ll be there for both so we’ll definitely grab a few.
got me and my girl tix for both nights in chicago for $96.. cant beat that.
I’m tired of coming to this site and seeing things about The Melvins…. WHO ARE THE MELVINS??? What do they have to do with Tool??? AND why the HELL are they named the Melvins?? MELVINS?? REALLY? Thats the stupidest name I’ve ever heard… The Melvins… its a proper noun! Unless… is there more than one person in the band named Melvin? if so it makes more sense… either way though… MY GOD Melvin is a stupid name.
THE MELVINS… *rips hair out*
I’m legally changing my name to MELVIN

Aside from the fact they’ve toured with Tool, played on stage with Tool, recorded with Tool and are widely regarded by the members of Tool as a huge influence on their music, they don’t have anything to do with them.

Aside from the fat they’ve toured with Tool, played on stage with Tool, recorded with Tool and are widely regarded by the members of Tool as a huge influence on their music, they don’t have anything to do with them. outside of their direct association with tool… how about their members’ input into fantomas who are also closely linked to tool by touring and friendship… and their general influence… Read more »
sorry guys. I really am a stupid piece of shit… I just listened to them and now I get it. I never even listened to them. They sound great.. they sound raw… they sound intense.
sorry for the outburst of ignorance and stupidity.
^ no worries… I honestly assumed you were being sarcastic… even if you listened and hated them isn’t important… what is important is that you listened to them… 25 years of making, highly influential sludge metal records isn’t an accident for this band…
also failed to mention their work with lustmord and jello, who are also linked to tool in a vaiety of ways (on record, live performance, etc.)
^ I’ve been listening to the Melvins for years, but I always thought they were kind of overrated honestly. It wasn’t until I saw them live in a small club that I really became a fan. Seeing them open for TººL in a huge arena was a bad experience… one repeated with Fantomas, Isis and several other bands. I recently posted a vid of Buzz mentioning that very thing.
If you get a chance to see them in a small(ish) venue, definitely go.
^ THERE GOES THE ALMIGHTY KITTAAN, SPOILING GOOD TUNAGE FOR EVERYONE AGAIN… FWAHAHAHAHA
Hooray for the Double Door. I love that place.
petemasterpete – 2 days ago » ^ THERE GOES THE ALMIGHTY KITTAAN, SPOILING GOOD TUNAGE FOR EVERYONE AGAIN… FWAHAHAHAHA On the contrary… I know you’re just messing with me, but I was making a point: After seeing both ISIS and the Melvins in small clubs, where you can actually here them, I loved them both. Having previously seen both opening for TººL in massive arenas and being severely under-impressed, I’m really glad I got to experience them in a proper venue. What they do just didn’t translate well in an arena, especially as an opening act, where the sound check… Read more »
^ I was just takin’ the piss outta ya… and I do agree with you except the part where you say Fantomas is not in their league… unless by that you mean a league of their own (sans Madonna). I have had the pleasure of experiencing Fantomas in a small venue and it my firien, was THE SHIT! I’d also add Tomahawk to the list of arena v. club acts that have opened for tool. When I saw them on the lateralus tour, they souded horrible. Granted the venue sucked pretty bad and tool sounded the worst I’ve ever hard… Read more »

Melvins oh why did I not see you when you were in Sydney 🙁 These guys are way better than Tool live, I’m actually going to be in the USA around the time they are touring but just never in the right city, dang!
Way better than TOOL live? That’s just plain crazy talk! I will be stoked to see them in Seattle tho!
melvins suck
ace of base rules
god it’s hard to keep a straight face even though you can’t see me
I should start to “mold” some cheese figurines…lol…of the band members, now that would be cool…can you imagine a geometrically sacred and directr representation of DC’s drum kit, molded out of cheese?….yes….i’m gonna do that! I scould use mild cheddar for the Paiste Alloys!
lmao
