Nemesis emailed me today saying:
I just pre-ordered 10,000 days, the guy in the store was on the phone while I waited and he says ‘hey, how many Tool are you getting…. yeah, whats the go there!?’. I said, thats actually why i’m here, is it worthwhile pre-ordering Tool, and he said that they’re only getting 10 copies. Apparently Australia ordered 50,000 but are only getting 20,000 copies for some reason. There will eventually be more, but if you want it Friday afternoon (thats when he said to pick up my copy), it might pay for fans to pre-order!
JB Hi-Fi also seem to confirm this on their website. If you want the CD straight away, it may pay to pre-order ASAP.
looks like im preordering tomorrow at a jbhifi store! im guessing store orders will have higher precedence than online. i have a bad feeling im going to miss out though. *sigh*
I downloaded the album and still feel the need to pre-order a copy, why is that? (i will be being the album regardless of if i pre-order)
hey do the actual JB stores (not the online one) let you preorder? as in you ask them to hold the album for you and you go in and pick it up?
I’d say they would Kai, you probably just have to put down a deposit or something.
Hopefully store orders do not take precedence over store pre orders! A preorder is a preorder and I preordered online weeks ago!!
It seems they’re obsession to prevent leaks has fucked everything up. I’m still going to Utopia at midnight to get mine, I’ll ask if they’ll hold one for me, but I doubt it… heaps of people will be there, and heaps of them will be pissed off if they can’t get it.
Personally, if you’re going to by it online, I’d recommend an actual online store, as opposed to a place like JB Hi-Fi which simply sources from it’s shops. Probably more likely to get a confirmed order.
For Aussies try Chaos Music perhaps? I’ve even order from Amazon overseas before, and you’d probably be surprised how quickly it can arrive, though obviously won’t be as quick as buying Australia (nor as supporting of the local scene)
Personally, I’ve pre-ordered at a local music store out here. Support the independants….
Could this be a ploy now the album has leaked to get as many pre-orders as possible?
I’m fearing this could be another body blow to the band because the longer it takes people to get their hands on an actual copy, the harder it becomes to resist the temptation of downloading it.
Especially after it’s release because then expect the file sharing programs to be overflowing with illicit files from the album!!
That’s bullshit! I went itnot JB-HI-FI today and they laughed at the suggestion that they were low in stock. This is all a publicity campaign to get more sales.
This is just unnecessary stress!!! Am having enought trouble waiting out this last week as it is!
The only time I would support independant music stores is when they can compete with the prices of sya the bigger stores like JB-Hi-FI. If I bought 10,000 days from an independant store it would easily set me back $35. It’s ridiculous!
If money’s that important to you then fine, there’s nothing I can say to change your mind.
I have a social conscience, therefore I choose to think about where my money goes, rather than blindly save a couple of dollars.
a couple of dollars!? $15 dollars will get you a fine lunch man 🙂
$35 bucks at an indy store, to quote Maynard “You musta been…High!”
radical records …..great store, but man they’re exaggerating a tad too much on the prices.
Man, that’s pretty hard, I know some stores are like that, but most indie stores are a lot better with prices.
I remember the day Mr. Bungles California came out, I saw it in one shop in SA (Verandah) for $35, thorught “screw that” went across the road to Big Star, and they sold it for me for $25 (which was their shelf price). Don’t judge all indie stores buy on or two scammers.
Anyway it pays to shop around, most indie shops will match prices anyway….
Hellboy I know where you’re coming from..not all Indie stores are like that. It’s just that there’s not too many good ones around where I’m from.

If that’s the case then it’s as I assumed above…
I just pre-ordered mine from JB Hifi (elizabeth st). I asked about the chance of a Friday arvo release and they said more likely Saturday… Then the guy fed me a story about the CD’s being made up at a different location to the book/packaging and that anything could happen. Care / believability factor = zero. Anyhow, the general vibe was its coming out on Saturday.
Anyone know what retailers in Melb will be doing a Friday release? I’m really hanging to get hold of it then. (Yeah, yeah I know I could download but its not the same.)
I think it’s likely that some will release it on Friday. I plan on ringing around first. I’m sure there’ll be plenty of posts here and on toolnavy about it anyway.
I went into the JBhifi just near Camberwell junction and the guy said they could do pre-orders, supposedly because the release date wasn’t set (how does that affect a pre-order?).
So I nipped a block down the road and pre-ordered in Sanity. I’m loathe to go to Sanity, but they let me pre-order for $25.
I put down 29.95 for mine, on the computer the guy reckons it says $36.00 though??
Pre-ordered mine through JBHiFi Nunawading first week of April. I have asked around and am getting different info on the supposed limited stock. Most consistent has been what was in the original post – likely limited first shipment as OZ is one of the first to get it, more in a week or two once the rest of the world gets it. Screwy but then again I have jumped through more buying/pre-ordering hoops with other bands. I just hope my patience holds if I go to pick it up on Saturday and are told I missed out. Only heard ‘Vicarious’… Read more »
Didn’t they also have this same problem with the first shipment of Salival down under?
Looks like you’ll be seeing price spikes on E-Bay or you guys can always import the American CD.
JB Hi Fi have updated the album page (http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/music/id/865356) with this: “Updated information as of 23rd April: we are quietly confident we will be receiving additional stock of this album – while this cannot be guaranteed, we do suggest that you put your orders in straight away to get to the front of the line. We hope to be able to post a definite answer online by Wednesday the 26th – please check back then and find out more… What a saga!” It seems ridiculous to me to think that there could be a ‘shortage’ of this album. Sony would… Read more »
