The Daily Texan has posted a short interview today with Justin, where he talks about 10,000 Days, some of the motives behind it and also comments on their reluctance to use iTunes. Thanks to mskintx for the link.
Daily Texan: Tool is one of the last bands to not give in to the iTunes conversion. Why is that?
Justin Chancellor: The fear is that the album will get torn apart. The main problem is that we work hard on this piece of art that’s supposed to be presented as a whole. To have people pick and choose parts of it is not what we want to get across.
Justin dodges bullets like a press secretary Mr. Smith. It sounded like he just threw some general “tool” mannerisms around, and they just happened to answer the questions, just barely. I felt like I was being bullshitted reading that interview.
Decipher this, pussies:
And I’ve been saying it pussy decipher.
Im sorry hellboy, but “it” throws around the dumbest shit.
huh? Maybe I’m a bit slow today but I don’t get what any of you guys are saying!
I do agree that it’s not a fantastic interview, but hey – it’s a slow news day…
was waiting to see ~ “so is it difficult to sing and play guitar at the same time?”
‘liquid’ is just on his rag again. Crying to his surrogate daddy. I’d say more, but I’ve trudged though his insipidity already.
Yeah, shitty interview. But before I had read the interview, I was inclined to write about how great fourtheye was. An interview is good news always, regardless.
seems to me like this whole interview was just an excuse for mr powell to put the word “juxtaposition” into written use.
“DT: Musically, there’s a juxtaposition of tribal sounds and rhythms with lyrical commentary, rather criticism, on modern society. What’s the underlying message you’re trying to get at with that pairing?”
– and who cares what the answer is.
LOL. You’re so dead on.
Is it me or are Tool becoming more pretentious as they get older?
i guess all i can say is Laugh Out Loud…..heh….surrogate….
Is it me or are Tool becoming more pretentious as they get older?
Don’t we all?
Tool is pretty pretentious though…
They’re also rock stars…
And I’d disagree with you anyway, I think they we far more pretentious when Lateralus came out.
Also probably true–the “We know the answeres” that Lateralus intended, and the “Apparently we were wrong and just a band” that 10,000 Days connotates, are very different in terms of ostentatiousness.
But they’re pretty pompous in any light. Not saying it’s a bad thing, or even a relevant thing. I personally wouldn’t care either way.
