Re: Random Tool Social Media thread

Have seen Stinkfist, Vicarious and Aenema as closers and I was stunned that Stinkfist ended up being my favourite of all three, despite it being my least favourite song of the bunch. Maybe it had to do with the energy that night and the overall performance/hype after so much time away and a new albu...

Re: Fear Inoculum

As a drummer, my take on this topic is that yes, there are indeed drum hiccups on the record. They're not huge, but there are enough timing inconsistencies that make it more apparent than on any other Tool record that it was not tracked to a click. Sometimes I find them a little distracting. Other t...

Re: Tool Covers

Here are imo the best folks doing drum covers so far. 1) This dude doesn't play with the most energy per se but he has done the most accurate job so far and for this I salute him (Tempest here but has also done Pneuma and Invincible) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XelbbAxF3Zo 2) This dude has way m...

Re: Culling Voices

shit y'all gimme a break... What I was trying to suggest was that this track may have been unfinished to a degree that the others weren't. "At the beginning of the recording sessions...the song wasn't what I had in mind for it..." sounds a lot like there was lots of room still to mess arou...

Re: Culling Voices

I seem to recall Justin alluding to the fact that this one was pretty half-baked going into the studio and it was one of those things Maynard pushed for as a sort of "bang something out in a week" experiment. I generally come down on his side when it comes to thinking that X amount of yea...

Re: Culling Voices

I think it is likely that this song remains my least favourite on the record for years to come, but once in a while I find myself so intrigued by it while listening. People say 7empest has shades of Opiate/Undertow and while that's true, on the whole it really is a mixed bag of a lot of the things th...

Re: New Album Touring (with SPOILERS!)

Wrote this in a more extended reddit thread but as far as I'm concerned, the songs we're likely to see busted out are: 1) Basically anything off of Opiate/Undertow with the exception of Prison Sex 2) I can see Eulogy coming back since it gets soundchecked and got played recently but I'm not holding ...

Re: New Album Touring (with SPOILERS!)

Been to 4 shows since the 10k Days era and I keep missing my all-time favourite Lateralus tracks (The Grudge, The Patient and D/R/T). Hoping to get to see one of those before they call it quits.

That's exactly what I think happened. Adam came in with a riff in another key and they had to change one or two things around.

Re: Fear Inoculum (track)

I was recently listening to a bootleg of one of the Toronto shows I went to (2012) and noticed something that got me thinking. The setlist has historically listed Descending as being premiered on this night in it's shortened version. I had always assumed this was correct because, while experiencing ...

Re: New Album Touring (with SPOILERS!)

Was definitely a highlight in 2012 but I'd take a deeper cut off of Opiate/Undertow any day. Those singles have really been worn out for me. Goes for all of the albums to be honest.

That's a great list nxrm. I'm at show #4 and am just happy that I've seen something from every album.

Re: New Album Touring (with SPOILERS!)

Took a bit of a fourth eye/reddit break before Toronto #2 (#4 on the whole for me, last time was 2012). Some general thoughts: - They seem to be having a lot of fun and spirits seem generally high which makes for a nice show - Disappointed that Toronto night 1 got the superior setlist (Descending + ...

This goes into the Bass stuff on Aenima.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXeH8Fi4bCg&t=694s iirc this just reiterated what we already knew in less detail, no? aka that he got a demo w/ eulogy, pushit and aenima? Mostly curious about his involvement on the non-demo tracks as it is increasingl...

Question about Aenima bass credits

Hey y'all - just looking for any clarification re: the bass writing on Aenima. I always knew Paul was involved in some of the songwriting on the record. Justin says as much even in recent interviews when he mentions that he got demos of Stinkfist, Eulogy and Aenema to work on for his audition. This ...

Good luck to everyone going to these. Taking a reddit/fourth eye break until the second Toronto show. Will be #4 for me, hoping for a deep cut I haven't heard yet.

Re: Tool Covers

I can't wait for the really good drum covers to start rolling in. A few folks out there have already nailed the guitar and bass parts and there are some drum covers that are decent but nothing near-flawless yet with good production. Gonna be sick.
