Re: Walking out my front door.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. I am just back from a very fun evening. Took my sister out for a belated birthday treat. A nice dinner a bottle of wine and a night at the theatre. We saw ONE NIGHT OF QUEEN performed by Gary Mullen and the Works. Yes I know: and if I didn't then I do now. I never got to s...

Re: Australian politics thread

So you're not refuting the article or the figures? Who said a family on a 100k is rich? If both parents are working it just means they both earn average wages. The carbon tax hasn't been abolished yet and if Abbott doesn't get it abolished and the direct action plan doesn't go into action then that...

Re: Australian politics thread

Damn I'm on the bus and phone and lost my reply. Off the top of my head again family payments to high income families with young children have not increased but their tax has increased. You do the math. Pensioners with dependants indeed. It is a hastily constructed piece of political point scoring....

Re: Australian politics thread

That table is deceptive and misleading. Off the top of my head it is also wrong. A couple with young kids earning $200k would be worse off.

Re: QOTSA

FINALLY saw Queens this past weekend at Hangout Festival here. They were as amazing as I expected although: festival set. Can't be avoided. Now I must see them at their own show. Good to hear. They are consistently excellent performers. I never mind much where I see them. They are not a band that n...

Not Tyson wrote: Tony Abbot earns more than Obama, our politicians are some of the highest paid in the world.
Really? I'll take your word for it and in that case Obama is being underpaid! When you stack salaries of around 1/2 a mill against the salaries and bonuses of our top 200 CEO's they both fall short.

Re: Australian politics thread

That's a tough one really. Should a politicians kid be exempt from scholarships? With the wages they earn, yes. The inverted snobbery that comes into play regarding high income earners sucks. In the main they don't give money away and high salaried PAYE earners contribute a lot in tax dollars and c...

Re: Australian politics thread

That's a tough one really. Should a politicians kid be exempt from scholarships? The article does say she was a distinction student and certainly from the schools point of view it probably makes good business sense to have a high profile student. It lends a certain credibility to the course with or ...

Re: Random Music News

^ I appreciate what they are trying to do, but I do not agree with it. All Wu is doing with this project is to perpetuate exclusivity. We have come to a place as a species where ART needs to be accessible to as many people as possible. If this album is truly special, it is almost criminal not to re...

The idea is also that we invest with our surplus in preparation for leaner times Oh you mean like when Labor saved us from the horrors of the GFC? I think our trade with China was what really helped shelter us but yes that's the idea. There is a bit or a sorry pattern of Liberal governments creatin...

Re: Australian politics thread

The idea of a balanced budget Tyson is that you run just as many surpluses as deficits, and I'd say we are due for a surplus! The idea is also that we invest with our surplus in preparation for leaner times ahead and we don't keep deferring debt for the next generation to pay.

Liz's comment is one of the stupidest things I've read in quite awhile, jesus christ. 'surplus means that you can start paying down the national debt ' Ahahahahahhahahahahahahaha It's certainly an option. I don't get your mirth at all Tyson. We have an aging population and it would be wise for us t...

Re: Australian politics thread

Surplus means the government taxed us too much, we need a balanced budget with a serviceable debt, just as people use credit cards and have a mortgage. A surplus means that you can start paying down the national debt or even, heaven forbid, invest in more infrastructure and hence job creation. Cred...

Re: Australian politics thread

I'm betting we hit surplus by mid to late 2015. Good thing common sense has prevailed. Alas, the loony left will tear shit down as always. "Smash the state" sounds pretty ridiculous coming from a bunch of 35 year old "radicals" who have been at university and sponging off the re...
