How do you know there was no extra material. By your logic, if Opiate was the extra to Undertow, then there won't be anything new. You have no idea what they recorded or wrote during that time, but way to give yourself hope

Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
No one outside the band really knows what leftover material they may have from any of their recordings. That, and the band probably have a different idea of what's worth releasing than we fans do. Most of us would be interested in hearing almost anything lying around in the Tool archives, but the band may not see that stuff as worth releasing in any form.
Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
Maybe they will remaster that studio footage and release it officially.

Possible extras for an Undertow Deluxe Edition:
- The 72826 demo tape
- 1994 Radio sessions (Maida Vale, Hilversum)
- Live tracks (probably from Tales From The Darkside)
- Would be nice to have a live version of Bottom with Zach de la Rocha
Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
Well, of course i do not know if there was extra material from the Opiate/Undertow era or not. It seems logical that a band would save their best material for a major release. I could be making some pretty heavy assumptions, but it still makes sense to me. I do not think that Opiate was exactly the "extra material." I think that Opiate was just made up of songs that TOOL did not care to use on a full-length album.trilobite wrote:How do you know there was no extra material. I could be wrong, whatever...

There was extra material from the Opiate/Undertow era, it's called Maynard's dick.
Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
There absolutely could have been some others songs TOOL has written from the time of Opiate that did not get released, but like Hellboy said: they must have their reasons for why a song or recording is not up to standards for an official release.
Maybe they only use material they deem worthy of public observation. I certainly get the feeling that all the music TOOL has released has been tuned to perfection, and they will accept nothing short of that...

Yeah a decent copy of Maynard's Dick; oh and maybe some more live stuff plus a studio version of No Quarter would be sick! Probably the only good stuff they've got lying around that's worth releasing anyway

Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
A while ago BMB was going on about that material slipping into some Eastern bloc record stores for no apparent reason... Bethlehem abortion clinic etc. Could've been created around Undertow.
Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
Salival probably did contain most, if not all, of the "extra material" from that early period in their career.
At that point those songs could have been the only "b-sides" TOOL thought were deserving of an official release.
It is quite likely Undertow will not have any surprises for us after all...

I think there is an unwritten law about not quoting Tool lyrics on a Tool forum. Or there should be.
