Much better experience "sitting" at a Tool show, just quietly.

I disagree completely... entirely with HB on this one... albeit the seating etiquette is quite different here than in the states.

I find it quite difficult to sit and 'watch' a show, rather than stand and let myself get lost in the music and the moment. Sitting is for DVD's in your living room (you hear that tool?)

Far to many people "moshing" around me at the last few GA sydney shows (01, 02, 07, 11BDO)

Since then always tried to "sit" when possible (note, no one has actually "sat" in the seats, every time I've been to a Tool show to sit, everyone stands anyway - you just have your own space, no worry about having a 14 year old sweaty metalhead kid jumping all over you, and hey, need to go get a drink/take a piss? No worries, you're space is there waiting for you! Also, don't have to be there at doors to get aspot near the front, you know your seat is there.

THAT SAID - Standing in Brisbane in 2011 was amazing - Everyone kept to their own space, no one moshing, it was quite amazing. If every show was like that, it would be fantastic (I think this may have been to a partitioned floor, however - most of the front partition tickets went early to Toolarmy and pre-sale, so maybe more dedicated fans instead of your casual metalhead?)

Anyway, standing in Sydney, so let's see if Sydney headline crowds have calmed down since 2007...

Adelaide, no probs.

I also got screwed on Melbourne though. Only 6mins past, GA was listed as an available option, but would not allow me to proceed.

Wouldn't bet on actually sitting unless you're in the first row. I had great seats at the Music Bowl in 2011 and every prick stood for the whole show.

I just got seats for Adel...the cheaper $105 tickets had better available seats than the more expensive $135. Will try again for the public sale to get better seats (and sell these on eBay or something).

(But yes, allow me to add the obligatory "Each to their own" line as well - Whatever your trip is!)

Those niceties are all good and well, but in my experience seating has neither the sound or the atmosphere of being up in the seats.  And to me a gig is all about mixing it with others.  Sitting on a seat seems all to sterile for me.

I am taking the missus.

She doesn't even know who Tool are.

I think she's in for a surprise.

I would never be able to sit through a whole tool concert, and I wouldn't like to stand next to my seat either, but yeah each to their own. My first seated concert will be Puscifer so I'm interested to see how that will go.

Stoked I managed to get a Melb GA ticket then, looks like they're the tough ones to get. Better get my 3 spare ones up on ebay for some massive mark up action!

Let's just stop there for a minute - from this point onwards bragging about scalping tickets will result in the post being deleted.  Repeat offenders will be banned.

man, I don't wanna start a whole big argument again, but last time I found my seat just as TOOL took the stage. I had never had a better view of a band, so I took 3 seconds before sitting just to take it in, immediately some dick behind me starts yelling to sit down. I understand that some people can't physically stand up, and if you want to stand get GA tickets blah blah, but that was the first big rock show I attended where the seated audience didn't at least stand for the big crowd-pleasing numbers. It was Third Eye, fer christs sake. Getting yelled at for not immediately taking a seat at a friggin TOOL show really put me in a foul mood for the first few songs.

GA baby aw yeeh

^ yeah... as far as I'm concerned, and generally I'ma fairly courteous fella, those people can get fucked.  Granted Radiohead isn't Tool, the Mrs. stood up at one point to dance to her favourite tune and was immediately 'greeted' with a really obnoxiously quite rude comment about her not sitting... I swiftly told the motherfucker where he could put it and stood up myself for the next few songs just to dick with him a bit... could at the very least ask nicely or I certainly not giving any consideration to your request.

If I had the option to get GA for every show was guaranteed I'd take it, but since that's not, if relegated to seats, I'll stand as I see fit.

Well, I'm more than happy: Sydney, A Reserve seat, front row of my section so there will be no dickheads in front me either sitting or standing etc. Now I can be one of those dickheads for everyone else behind me (even though I'll just sit and watch). Overlooking the moshpit, front row and I might even go to the Bulldogs v Wests Tigers NRL game at ANZ Stadium beforehand (first half maybe). All good!

Today was a good day to be a Tool fan so I thought I'd better come here and share it with the obsessed. Tickets GA standing and that is perfect. I sat down once, so been there and done that. Definitely not for me. This will be the first time I have seen them outside of a festival tour (I have seen a side show though) so I'm pretty excited for this one. Even on a bad day I know it will be a show worth seeing.

So how come you've disappeared from here anyways Liz??

Got standing for Sydney show & A seating for Brisbane.. Figure I'm forking out shitloads in flights as is, so whats a sneaky little Brisbane stop over gonna hurt. Never sat down for a Tool show, always been curious to be able to take it all in a bit better, so looking forward to it.

Well quite apparently I haven't but I have been exploring some weird places on the net.

Enjoy your two shows Busty. I know why you are testing seating because I was curious too. I betcha you won't choose that option again though and as you are greedily seeing two shows you can afford the experiment.

Aww, so you've finally discovered porn on the internet?? Good for you :p

Well I'd be lying if I said i chose to get seats.. Once I'd acquired floor tickets for Sydney, ticketek told me i'd be sitting for brisbane show. If I had the choice, I would've taken floor as always, but am kinda sorta glad my hand was forced on this one.. If there's ever one band I could handle sitting down for it's these guys.. Time will tell I guess..

so, got couple of GA tix for auckland quite easliy. after all the preparation, i copied my password incorrectly and had a few nervous moments sorting out but got there in the end. traditionally i've always preferred seats cos i like to see the full stage and have my own space, but after the brisbane show where we had shit seats and everyone was sitting i was quit hesitant to get seats this time round.

Looking forward to seeing a full tour show in NZ again....its been far too long!!!

Yes, because you know no matter how many porn sites you find new and exciting variations are always emerging. *chuckle*

Ok your explanation makes sense now. I didn't really picture you as the standing type. I did enjoy actually being able to see what was going on (my height often precludes that) but I really felt you lost some of the feeling and tribalism of the performance and I don't think it was the best place for the sound either, although I obviously didn't hear it from the floor.

I figured it would be a joke, but all the same I just wanted to be clear before Tyson and Crow jumped on the scalper trolling bandwagon.

I'm shocked that you would ever take me seriously.

Like I could be bothered trying to get TOOL tickets online, then sell them later, again, online. Pssh.

Haha, yeah there's always something dirtier & more extreme just around the corner.. Keep digging til ya feel something..

Didn't picture me as the standing type ai?? haha, I'm that annoying prick, the morning after a bender that's telling everyone to get their arse out of bed & let's go do something.. kinda got a lot of energy to burn & have a hard time sitting still for long, so gonna be hard trying to sit down at a concert.. Last time I remember actually sitting at a gig would've been Ben Harper about 13 years ago..

Totally don't blame you.
