Caduceus and Merkin Wines at Sip Wine

Got an email from Matt at Sip Wines this evening. Merkin & Caduceus Wines are now available to Aussie customers via their website http://shop.sipwine.com.au/

These are the same guys who brought Maynard's wines to Australia recently, including the wine tastings prior to the shows on the recent tour. Nice guys and worth supporting.

The prices are pretty expensive, even the cheap stuff is $50 a bottle. No doubt some of you will question it's value, but lets keep the "omg you can get better wine for $20" type trolling out of this thread.

Sorry, it really needed to be said.

Carry on.

Are you criticising Maynard or the people reselling the wine? The price is reflective of the original cost + the money they have to pay to import it. There's no getting around the fact that these are expensive, but there is a reason for it.

I'll def hit up the Caduceus cellar when I'm stateside in a few months. I understand the import costs, but I still refuse to pay for something I can get In the states for half the price. For the connoisseurs with deep pockets, enjoy.

Yep, they're expensive wines, and that one is one of the more expensive ones. It's great that these guys are bringing this wine to Oz, but it appears that importing costs are more or less prohibitive.

One thing I noticed while at the wine tasting the other night was that Sip Wines are bringing the Velvet Slipper Club to Australia (it's kinda like a Caduceus subscription type service where you get a few bottles of wine, usually the harder to get and sometime exclusive varieties). Spots on this sounded pretty limited, and it was also quite expensive (no real surprise there). If this kind of thing interests you I'd suggest contacting Sip Wines sooner rather than later.

How was the evening?

Do you know of anyone importing his wines into NZ? I'm interested to know how his chat goes at the Pinot Noir event in Wellington...doing my best not to be a fan boy and go say hello as its right by my work. I doubt very few tool/APC/puscifer fans would even know he's in town. Just a shame the only Puscifer gig is in Dorkland.

First thing day 3: http://www.pinotnz.co.nz/programme/

I haven't heard of an importer specific to NZ ,but I'd suggest it's worth sending Matt from Sip Wines an email. He might be able to swing some your way.

Yeah couldn't believe how expensive it was...obviously some pretty serious chats taking place within those doors.

Kinda odd to think Maynard is just cruising round NZ with no tour dates in sight. Reckon he'd be over in the Wiararapa smashing a few wines there before coming to Welly tomorrow.
