Holy. Fucking. Shit.

They're truly outdone themselves with this album. I'm stunned.

Also: the guitar tones!!!! Thank god they finally busted out real amps again. The results are immediately apparent.

Looks like Meshuggah will be touring with a replacement guitarist:
So...we had to send our interdimensional Kazoospecialist Dr Thordendal on a mission to explore some interesting stuff. He's been asking for this assignment for quite a while and it seems now is the time to realize his aspirations. This would however leave the rest of us unable to deliver our usual tonal obscenities for quite some time... and obviously we can't have that!
So we put our five blocks of wood together and came up with a brilliant plan that we thought would be productive, intelligent and artistically mature.
We took some rolls of duct tape, a black hood, a sock with a cue ball and some rope and drove north from Stockholm in a sketchy van to fetch ourselves the prey we wanted, to fill the Kazoospot for a while. We won't get into the messy details but we can now proudly present our interim Lead Kazooist for the duration of "The Thords" hiatus: PER NILSSON!!
MAN he knows how to Kazoo!! You will meet him first time on our summer run in North America with Megadeth and be all the better for it!! Honestly, we could just send Per by himself but we decided the rest of us will tag along for moral support

Yeah I saw this and I am fucking disgusted. Fredrik in many ways has been the driving creative force behind so much of their music. They should have just cancelled the fucking tour. Plus unlike Adam Jones, who anyone can cover, Fredrik is a monster and you cannot replace someone that good and expect it to still be Meshuggah.

Fuck Meshuggah for this decision.

Look at it this way... they aren't doing it for a headlining tour, they're doing this so that they don't have to drop off of what will no doubt be a very lucrative ($$$) opportunity for the band, on a tour where even though I COULD go, someone like me isn't about to bother going to watch them open for fucking Dave Mustaine's weird ass.

I'd also bet dollars to donuts (that phrase is underused, fuck you...) that Frederick is A-OK with them raking in that money on his behalf.

Na I don't make excuses for bullshit. Meshuggah are bitches for even touring with that extreme right wing republiocunt Mustaine in the first place. Then they tour without Frederik, who as I mentioned has the largest role in terms of song writing and musical direction in the band. No Frederik, no Meshuggah.

I joke about Adam Jones but in all reality Tool without Adam isn't Tool. He might be a delusional lazy fuckstick but even I can't deny his importance to the bands sound and creative direction. Bands like Tool and Meshuggah don't work without all the members. A band like Opeth can have a revolving door of musicians because Mikeal basically writes everything and always has.

As for the money I dont imagine any of the guys in Meshuggah are hurting for cash. No they dont sell out 10,000 seat arenas but they do about as well as an extreme metal band could do. They could let Fredrik do his thing and then tour more when he gets back.

Bottom line I have lost quite a bit of respect for Meshuggah because of this. I am alot of things but a fanboy is not one of em.

I think you might be surprised to learn about the income level of bands like them.

Personally? I'd have little interest in seeing Meshuggah without him. But that's me. You always say "making excuses," I just don't see it that way. Just because something doesn't bother or incense me about a band, doesn't mean I'm "making excuses" for them. No one has to "make excuses." It either turns you off or not. Knowing a lot of people who use music/art as their only source of income, I probably have a lot more sympathy for these situations than a lot of people do. I dunno. It's really, really hard these days to make that your primary income, even at their level.

I am well aware of income levels when it comes to bands at different levels of popularity. None of the fellas in Meshuggah are Danny Carey lambo rich by any stretch but they all can comfortably sustain themselves. They don't need this without Fredrik. Violent Sleep of Reason did very well, was well received (albeit a let down for me), and they have toured successfully behind it. No reason at all they couldn't take a little time off so Fredrik could do whatever the fuck it is he is doing.

Meshuggah sold out. Fuck em

I very much doubt that Fredrik not being there was intended when they signed the contract to tour.

Bah horseshit on the contract bands back out of tours all the time. Anybody that claims to be a Meshuggah fan and goes to see them on this tour (well first of all we are probably talking about a bunch of white power republicunts considering Mustainadeth is the headliner)...isn't a fan at all. No Frederik, no Meshuggah.

Haake and company fucking sold out.

Never said Meshuggah shouldn't be trying to make money that is absurd. I said touring without Fredrik is selling out. Without Fredrik there is no Meshuggah. So it's a bush league move pulling in someone else to play lead guitar in a band where the lead guitar player is the largest creative driving force in said band's musical direction on every album they write.

Bottom line they could have taken a break and let Fredrik finish up his walkabout. Then go back to touring and making money.

Plus just the fact that they would even open up for that white supremacist racist republicunt Dave Mustaine disgusts me.

i have just arrived from my first meshuggah concert from krakow

and it was hyped by everyone allways....best band...best live band...etc

but it was way better than anything i could imagine before

this shit is seriously on an other level, i have to say even if Tool was considered my favourite band, and live experience for me... this band just sent Tool to the second place in my heart
absolutely my top concert, ever

Did anyone ever figure out exactly what the deal was? Not that it's our business but... I am curious what spurred his hiatus.

its a dumb thing to compare meshuggah and tool, not the same genre, not the same approach, its obvious

but i'm listening to catch 33 again, and its ending and i have to put it on again
its released in 2005 and cant help but think about adam, danny and justin almost finishing 10kdays, and just the moment they put on this record :D

if i were tool, i would say, okay, i dont want to write music for like months or years, and just listen to this album
its that good

kicking 10kdays or lateralus or anything in the balls just so hard its not even comparable... the lyrics, the concept, and this overwhelming brilliance thats fucking you in the heart and mind at the same time

unbeleivable

^ Bah I am still bitter about Fredrik not being there. Per is good but he is not Fredrik. Fredrik needs to finish whatever the fuck he is doing and get back where he belongs and get to work on a new Meshuggah album. They need to make up for the absolute mess that was The Violent Sleep of Reason. It started so well with Clockworks and then went to shit. Such a disappointing album
