I play guitar, do some singing and since about a year back I've started to learn more about production/recording.
I also want to share some music from my band that I think some people here might like!

I've had a long love for the music of Tool and APC, and I think some of that comes through in these songs.
I've been influenced by different genres so it's not THAT similar but hopefully you guys will dig the feeling of it. Give it a listen:)

Sun, I like your songs! Nice work with the recordings, as well. Drums are a bitch to record well (unless they're electronic, that is).

Yeah, and the drum sound can make or break a recording.

I like where you took it, but IMO you need to work on your timing. It's kind of all over the place.

Thank you! If you do not have a drummer, it happens.

Glad you didn't take it too personally.

If you don't want drums on the recorded track, I recommend a simple click track / rhythm track in headphones so no bleed.

I think you think that it is out of time because I played the intro different and not note for note what Tool played. It is my "interpretation." If it would be a straight cover, I could see that timing is off in the beginning. I wanted to do it my way or else it would just be Tool's song all over again.

Are you a musician?

No, Kittaan's right, the timing is off a little bit. It's not a big deal, but like Kittaan mentioned earlier, it would be a good idea to use a click track the next time you record something like this. Especially when you're doing multitrack recordings, if the timing is off on one track it can screw up the whole recording.

I'm not a pro musician, (although I've made gas money over the years).

It's off enough to be distracting and you don't want that to be what people remember. If you want to prove it to yourself, just try to tap along to it. You'll quickly hear it.

Thank you for your insights. I appreciate them. I recorded the song with my amp and computer.

Next time I record, I will pay more attention to timing. Too bad I could not record in a studio.

Kittaen, which instrument do you play? Drums?

When I was eighteen and nineteen, I recorded an album. Now, I am thirty-three and have restarted playing guitar in the last month or so. I guess I am still rusty when it comes to timing. What is funny is that my drummer friend did not say anything about timing.

I'm primarily a bass player. When you start playing with other musician's you need to have your sense of timing functioning otherwise it will quickly blow up.

Re your drummer friend... Most people will not be honest when critiquing a friend's art. Even if you tell them you want them to be. I guess it's uncomfortable, but I'd rather know.

I decided to back up my shit by showing you something I did a while back, showcasing my perfect timing:

Here's a recording I did earlier to test out a new app on my phone. It's some improv over the chords of Freddie Freeloader.

And here's another version that has a few problems. One you can hear pretty prominently a ways into the clip.

Why do you not use audacity to remove the first few seconds? It is easy. Just highlight and cut.

It creates atmosphere. By keeping those few seconds in you get a sense of the environment I'm playing in. That said, if these were serious recordings I probably wouldn't have kept them, but these are just recordings to capture musical ideas and test out the capabilities of the RecForge II app I downloaded for my phone.

I've reconsidered NostraHistoria thoughts and decided to cut the whole looping process from those Freddie Freeloader recordings. So now it's just the solos.

Here's a link to my SoundCloud page with all of my stuff on it.
