Black Sabbath- God is Dead?

Just heard this single today from their new album...damn, it really exceeded my expectations. Ozzy sounds good and I like Tonny's atmospheric riff. Kind of looking forward to their new album now. Thoughts?

I got to see them perform End Of The Beginning.  Its amazing that that voice comes out of a frail little old man that walks like Monty Burns.

An older friend loaned us a copy of his cd b/c he doesn't partake anymore and just couldn't enjoy it.  We fucking love it!  It is trippy and soothing.  Saw it on vinyl today at RSD, but had to keep focused on the mission for the day.  I almost dropped it when I saw they wanted $40 for it!  Wow!

It really has nothing at all to do with expectations.  It has everything to do with whether or not I liked it.  Again, it didn't thrill me.  Simple as that.  Besides, they're not THAT much older than me, so I'm not cutting them any slack for that shit!

I agree, age is no reason to cut a band slack.  That said I didn't think the song was terrible either.

However I did watch a video from their first show in Auckland last night.  Ozzy's vocals were atrocious.  People have a go at Maynard, but really, Tool fans still have it pretty good compared to some bands.

Ozzy is 16 years older than Maynard and he has released more albums than Tool.

Yeah, seems kinda obvious.  Still, the point remains - Ozzies vocals are far worse than Maynards.  No denying there are plenty of reasons for it, just pointing out that it is what it is...

Tool fans have it good? definitely not live. I get he can't rebel yell anymore but he is incapable of harmonizing even the newly recorded songs. have you heard this dried up wine drenched vocal mess lately? the last Puscifer pro shot performance was horrendous. plus if you've seen Tool recently and have a good ear, only Jennifer Lopez has more effects on her voice. then you have this video....Freddy just rolled over and said that's the first time his ghost has ever heard cats being fucked by cacti in a cave....#spelunking

^ Preach on brother.  Everybody talks about cutting Maynard some slack which is nothing but a bunch of apologist drivel.  Jimmy did this to himself.  Drink wine every day all day and your throat/vocal chords will take a Sasha Grey style pounding.  People then immediately say the dude is old now give him a break.  Dude is only 48.  He isn't using a walker yet.  If he eased up on the wine and worked with a vocal coach I suspect he could get back fairly close to what he was before.  No he will never be able to scream again on a regular basis but he could recapture some of that dynamic range and move more easily between registers.  Of course it's Maynard we are talking about.  He can piss in a bottle and call it Vitamin water and a large portion of the fan base would buy that shit up.

The whole Maynard argument has been done to death, let leave that for the grudge and focus on Ozzy.
