Here's some good news:

ASESINO — the death metal/grindcore project featuring FEAR FACTORY/DIVINE HERESY guitarist Dino Cazares and ex-STATIC-Xbassist Tony Campos (on bass/vocals) — is preparing to enter the studio to begin recording its third album, "La Segunda Venida" (English-language translation: "The Second Coming") for a late 2013 release via Odio Records.

April 02nd will see the release of a deluxe reissue of Mad Season‘s lone 1995 album “Above“. The group also had a number of songs written for a sophomore album that was never finished.

Mike McCready and Barrett Martin revisited that material last year with producer Brett Eliason once again behind the boards. The trio brought in Mark Lanegan to lend his vocal/lyrical talents to three of those tracks which will be included on the new 2-CD/1-DVD set.

The first disc of the set will see the album itself along with the revisited songs and some extra bonus tracks. The second disc will be comprised of live audio from the bands final show (1995's “Live At The Moore“). The third disc in the set will be a DVD release of the previously mentioned live concert film with some bonus live footage.

Extra songs that will appear on the first disc of the set include:

“Interlude” (previously unreleased)
“Locomotive” (with Mark Lanegan)
“Black Book Of Fear” (with Mark Lanegan)
“Slip Away” (with Mark Lanegan)
“I Don’t Wanna Be A Soldier” (remix)

A 2xLP vinyl pressing of the release is also expected to be made available on April 20th as part of this years “Record Store Day” festivities.

Couldn't really get into Mad Season to be honest, but I'll give this a listen when it comes out.

not a huge fan, but in retrospect the album has become better now then it was then for me.  You can hear death in Layne's vocal delivery, although that was also true of several AIC tracks starting with Dirt.

Not super excited, but worth the share if only for the wax nuts on the site

also +100 million for Lanegan's involvement.

My first reaction:  Oh no.

After watching the vid: Interested.  Honestly, the song without the visuals probably wouldn't have drawn me in as much, although it wasn't awful.  Just not that remarkable on it's own.

Been burned too many times over the past decades with mediocre Bowie.  He's been very hit or miss, with long stretches of miss.  His early work was stellar and I still love it, so I'm rooting for this to be good shit.  He's a legend after all.

@Crow: well, welly, well, well... if you insist, but you need to cover your own airfare back to Oz... it ain't gonna slap your cheek from overseas.

@Kittaan: I kind of hear ya on that... shit, I'm still waiting for part to of Outside (which will never happen), but I'm of the opinion his worst days were in the 80's (when I was a wee lad) and everything has been better since.

Joe Baressi is currently online being interviewed about record production/engineering.  Been quite interesting so far, and has quite openly been discussing recording 10k Days.

Edit: All finished now, was an interesting interview, though not a huge amount of relevance was revealed for Tool fans, except for a few recording techniques used main for Adam.

they're not terrible by any means and yet not fantastic but definitely worth a listen... I spin them on occasion and generally don't skip them on shuffle
