You seem to have quite the hardon for bashing the US and its citizens. Jealous much?

My 10 year old is currently studying US and World Geography. He was quite interested and is getting pretty savvy, which is also renewing my interest while helping him study. We've got huge maps up in the hallway and he's constantly using them for reference.

I can tell you from personal experience that it's a use it or lose it kind of thing. I also remember studying the shit out of Geography as a kid, and passing tests with flying colors... only to be repeatedly embarrassed later in life similar to what's recounted above.

I'm terrible at Geography. It really wasn't taught much in school. That said I do know where America and Australia are on the map and I know Kuwait is in the Middle East, but I couldn't point it out on the map.

That kind of generalization is both shitty and sadly, kind of accurate. It's always shitty to just say, "well AMERICANS ARE LIKE THIS," not least of which because the sheer numbers in a country like this skew things. Yes, there are massive, crushing amounts of some of the pound-for-pound dumbest people on planet earth. But there are a lot of good, conscious people here too. And there's a lot of ignorant assholes anywhere you go.

I wasn't sure how to say this yesterday, but I think she was referring specifically to white, middle-class college people.

That's the feeling I got from the interview. And again, in my experience, it's generally pretty accurate. Some of the white college kids I met who attended NAU were downright imbecilic.
