Care to break it down for those that don't give a fuck enough about the Deftones to listen?

NOT A CARE GIVEN TO DO SO

highlight was Chino talking about going through a back catalog of live recordings from 95-96 and not wholly enjoying the experience of listening to a lot of it... he's of the opinion that they're a better band (surprise!) and he's a better vocalist now

the intent is to put together a vinyl album, spanning their career with 4-5 live tracks from each album cycle... no mention, but I'd anticipate it'll be available thru other aural mediums also

It seems like Chino does the same picture for every fucking project.  Him and the rest of the guys standing in a line, slightly obscured by something.  Nonetheless I'm looking forward to this album, so it's cool to see a time-frame.  Now here's hoping they stick to it.

yes... fuck that asshole for not being the art director, too!

actually, the pic of the band on the back of the Koi vinyl is quite bad

And he's still got that awful annoying out-of-tune voice thing he does...thought he'd change that by now....shame....we'll see....

June 25th release date slated for their debut effort via Ipecac Recordings.

Chino Moreno confirmed the news himself today via his Mixlr account, where he also debuted an unspecified song from the project.

in other news, I'm in a state of shock now, knowing that the guy with the cheesiest, most generic, taste in music on this site doesn't appreciate the deftones... um, wait... that should have been blatantly obvious, even to a deaf-mute such as myself

edit: http://mixlr.com/chino-moreno/showreel/  ... skip to about 1:02

Ah, well. Looking forward to finally hearing the album. From what interviews I've read, they all said it doesn't sound much like ISIS + Chino at all.

Oh that makes sense.  I caught the end of one song.  Then it went into some weird like segue song then it started playing what I thought might've been a Palms song, but it was 3 o'clock in the morning and I didn't feel like being disappointed.

^ Ugh.  No good.

I had some concerns about this project when I heard that Chino would be fronting it.  Chino is not a good singer.  I know Pete is going to wax poetic as soon as soon as he reads this, but it is true.  Chino has a unique voice, and his tone and style work perfectly in Deftones.  Outside of Deftones though, I had difficulty picturing how Chino's voice could fit in with what Aaron and company had in mind.

Which brings me to Aaron and Company.  Not entirely sure what is going on musically here.  The vibe is Post-Rock, although certainly a more toned down version of Post-Rock.  Certainly not Russian Circles style Post-Rock.  No real build up of any kind.  If the idea was to write a post-rock style album with a singer that is not going to work.  Rarely have I heard a good Post-Rock band that has a singer.  I think Palms would have worked better as an instrumental band.  Again though, it is early and this is all based off one song.  This may not reflect the general musical direction of the project at all.  I am still intrigued, but "Tropics", at this moment in time, is rather underwhelming.  One can only hope the rest of the album is more cohesive in direction and concept.

Damn it, I didn't even know the song was up until today. Now it seems like it's been removed from the internet. Does anybody know where I can listen to it?

no suck luck trolling me like that li'l moggies... you're free to think whatever you like as long as your safe in the knowledge that the only thing I'm waxing poetic is this raging hard on I have after reading your post

also, from what I know is it's an un-mastered first take demo, so I do anticipate it'll get polished in due time, much like my freshly waxed wiener.

@GB: keep searching youtube... the tracks been up and down via various sources as Warner Music chases it around, blocking one vid at a time

Does the song have an official name? I keep seeing that it's untitled.
