The second one apparently didn't do too well because it opened against The Dark Knight so I think the studio's wary of going back to that same crew. But if anything hurt it in that scenario it was bad luck and the property not being as strong as Batman. Which you would think would make them wary about making another Hellboy movie in general, cast and crew aside, but this announcement makes it seem like they think the problem was Del Toro or the creative team in general, which is dumb.

That, or this team pitched a more marketable movie, which is concerning in it's own right.

Most likely the success of Logan and Daredevil made the studio want to try their hands at an adult oriented comic book movie and this is what they had to work with.

It's like a 90 minute tv commercial for sunglasses or men's casual wear or cologne or something. Everybody involved is a stereotype reproduction of a cliched cardboard cutout.

Yeah, it's that bad. And yet the general public are lapping it up. More fool them.
