I think in keeping with the original story, we will never definitively know who The Yellow King is. I don't even think there will be a definitive answer as to who keeps the killing going.

Also... holy shit this episode was so great. Just keeps getting better. When the "shootout" finally unfolds my jaw was again on the floor. The best twists are the ones you realize you actually saw coming, but never realized it.

Well... I don't know why I expected that revelation to be any less depressing and brutal.

Final 2 episodes prediction, Act III:

Rust is NOT the killer as much as the story wants you to believe it. Rust has been consumed by the case and he has to get to the bottom of it all and find the remaining killers. He/They obviously cant admit that the one guy (forgot his name, but he slit his wrists in jail) told him they didnt catch the right guy and that reggie didnt do it. They would be fucked if that word got out. So Rust is still searching for the killer, and hes onto something. The next episode will be about Rust and Marty catching up after 10 years. Rust fills Marty in on what hes been doing while hes been "gone", which is just collecting evidence and searching. They get past their differences, move on, and Marty gets interested in the case and Rusts new evidence, so they go on one final case together to kill the killer, off the books of course cause they arent cops anymore.

Just my prediction, any other guesses??

That's all pretty obvious though, and I think the show has made it a point to mostly not fuck with the audience. The show has gone out of its way to illustrate that Cohle is clearly not the killer at all, it's only been showing us WHY he's a suspect in the eyes of the 2012 detectives.

The showrunner, Nic Piezoelectricollatta, has repeatedly stated that this isn't really so much a "who done it" as it is about these two characters and what the investigation does to them. And more and more, that seems to be true. I think very obviously Tuttle and Co. are tied in with the murders, it will just be as you said, how Hart and Cohle deal with it. I think the ending will be fairly in line with some of Cohle's darker assertions/theories, it won't be happy, and it won't be all wrapped in a tidy bow.

Hot damn, only one left! This episode was great, and seemed to add to the assertion that they're not really looking to throw curveballs at the audience, which I respect.

What the fuck was with the final 10 minutes?

Rust was able to stare into the abyss and finally avert his gaze?

He couldn't rationalize a near death experience?

Knowing how much of a Christian Matthew is one could wonder if that's why he took on that role.

Also thanks for giving closure on all those visual clues about Marty's daughter, Nic.

9/10 season.

Great series with a pretty good ending. I agree with it being a 9/10 season. I can't see any good reason why McConaughey shouldn't get the Oscar and Emmy double.

I think the ending is perfect and will only strengthen the rest of the series if/when people rewatch it. I was incredibly moved by the end.

Can you tell me anything at all about season 2?

Nic Pizzolatto: Okay. This is really early, but I'll tell you (it's about) hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system.

This part totally took me out of the show. It wasn't so much the line, but the fact Marty and Rust looked at the camera after it.

it's great that Rust end the series with a glass half full line about the Universe. plus he's un-killable. lol. that dude, who was also in Boardwalk Empire, was a sick puppy. great season, can't wait for next year. I've never seen Game Of Thrones, not even 15 seconds of it, is it too late to catch up?

Games of Thrones is pretty good regardless of how you approach it. If you have the time or patience I suggest reading the books first though.
