Well I told myself I wasn't going to look at any of the setlists before the San Diego show...but now I want to see what they play tonight.

Wasn't expecting 46 & 2 as song two. Opiate with the new song/extension was pretty sweet. Excited to see what they pull out for us on Night 2.

Mirror image is probably a good bet.
Blue and red lines go to the right so it would look weird to have other colors on the other side.

BTW, no one commented on the stink level of these prints?
They look like a similar printing process as the infamous 2012 prints (mine still have an ink/oil smell to them)

Danny wore a Warriors tank! I appreciate that :P

The song after Jambi was good. I guess that was Opiate, but I'll let more knowledgeable folk confirm. I liked the drumming on that tune.

Toolband site reads 7:45 pm Failure, 9 pm Tool
APE Concerts tells us doors open at 7, show at 8 so not quite in parallel.
Failure wasn't bad at all. Good vocalist.

Posters do have that smell. Not nearly as bad as a Jeff Beck poster from the Fillmore (about 4 years ago).
The blue and yellow/orange/red colors are really vivid.

Even with beer being accidentally spilled on me from behind, toes being stepped on in front, it was a mellow crowd, good vibes.
Too much (audience) smoke though at the beginning of Third Eye.
They dropped red confetti on us sometime in the second set.(EDIT: perhaps it was end of first set)
The lights do come up during intermission and that's a bit of a buzz kill.
Fine to take a maynard-in-the-middle break, but don't turn on the lights. Save some energy, money.
Maynard seemed to be in a good mood. Danny was having fun. Adam did the voice box well on Jambi.
I like the 2010 Schism intro more.

Looking forward to tonight. I guess the only difference will be?

I was hoping to find the time today to share some details about the VIP in SF yesterday. That's not going to happen, so here's a quick note which I will expand upon if people are interested:

I went in somewhat regretting my impulsive purchase, but left feeling like it was worth it. I could care less about the merch, it was the experience that was so cool.

Just some random thoughts/experiences from the day:

As others have described, Adam is very down to earth and "real". There was no weird vibe and he is a genuinely nice guy who clearly cares about his fans. That was his motivation to do the VIP and I believe him. I guess I drank the Koolaid when it comes to Adam (I already imbibed it for DC and Justin).
Lot's of interesting tidbits were shared by Adam, Juan (very cool dude with great Deftones stories as well) and other VIP attendees.
I was the last to enter the venue (traffic and parking hosed me big time) but somehow I was front and center for the meeting with Adam. He was right in front of me for 90% of the time we had with him, and when he played Jambi, I felt like he was playing it just for me... what dreamy eyes... LOLz But seriously, it was pretty damn cool.
The soundcheck was cool, wish it had been longer and that MJK would stick around at least for a song. We got to hear them run a few songs through with him behind the closed venue doors and it sounded great. Adam, DC and Justin were working out some new breaks/build ups. Very cool to watch them interact and just jam shit for fun.

Really dug the show. I was fairly sure there would be no surprises last night as they have been rotating the two set lists pretty consistently. Hoping that won't be the case tonight, but if they open with Hooker... oh well. I will still dig it.

New break in Opiate was jarring but interesting too. I tried to record it right before the new break through the ending (which was very intense). Have no idea how it came out, been too damn busy today catching up with work to check. If it's at all decent (I had a great view) I"ll post it if people want to see it.

Trying to get out the door as soon as I wrap up work to go do it again. Pretty damn burnt out, but stoked for another Tool show. Hoping to hook up with Ak-rev and Bonebroke at the show. More later.

Thanks for the review. Did you get to ask Adam anything? Were any of the questions worth noting that were asked by others?? MJK did not do soundcheck for VIPs? How far were you from the rail during soudcheck?? Thanks

thanks for the review Kittaan! I can't wait, doing the VIP as well, did they let you bring anything else in for Adam to sign? such as a poster, album or whatever? enjoy the second show! my buddy got hosed last night he bought a ticket that ended up being fake! feel bad for the dude, told him he should've kept checking ticketbastard, anyways cheers!

Someone posted the official email they got for the VIP stuff. The email said do not bring your own stuff since he wont be signing it. I guess the first people got lucky with that one.

Also of note was the "do not bring gifts for members of the band"
It made me chuckle since (1) who the hell thinks that their gift would be something the band likes, and (2) your gift is the $500 you gave to them for the VIP

TOOL effen TOOL! What a great show. Good to see them all in top form. Good to see the stage production evolve. Great venue to see them, the wideness of the stage is good for a Tool show. Interesting how now the intermission is with the lights on instead of the screens just doing it's trippy thing for 12 mins. Good to hear a full on drum solo from Danny, never seen one like that with just him on stage. Good fucking times!
