Yeah I'm definitely not VIP turns out. I know the guy who makes danny's drums, but hes not on this particular tour so he contacted the current touring drum tech for me...so there was almost no communication which made it a little complicated. I got hooked up with VIP passes when I saw them 12 years ago so I thought it was possible. I JUST found out about the tickets like two days ago after trying to get them for weeks...that's rock n roll for ya.

Thanks for the help guys, especially az. I talked to the people at us airways and they were zero help. I'll see you guys out there tonight!

that's the setlist we got in NJ back in 2012 but instead of Third Eye we got Hooker. I really dig the AZ version. how was the show? so excited for you guys man. I really want to see them live this year, I hope they hit the East Coast sometime in 2014.

So wiped out from last night!!!! got home after midnight then slept for 4 hours to get up for a 12hr work day! so just a cliff note version of the show/experience, so apparently 90 passes were sold, so there were left over vip posters (possibly TA or TB merch to sell later?) that were pre-signed. saw everything from extra stars and swirls, some all in gold ink, some in red ink, some in both ink, and some fish doodles on the posters. I was fortunate to get one with a swirl and star on it and the one Kittan has posted , when I was handed my posters, I noticed one of them had some gunk on it and asked to switch it out, which ended up being the one with the star and swirl!

VIP session pretty much like others have posted, but somethings that seem to stick out was that Adam was telling Maynard a story Bill Manspeaker told him about being abducted from aliens and shitting the bed and next thing Adam knows its a song now. got to say hi to Arron Harris as he was in attendance for a little during the Q&A, someone asked about problem 8 in which Adam was clueless about, but the person said blair posted it and his response was something to the effect of "blair is a guy you meet and are like 'who the hell is this asshole?'' but then are like "damn this guy is fucking awesome" so no Adam is not aware of anything about problem 8..... so he says. He apologized to some girls from london because they gave him crap about them not touring for quite sometime in the UK, but again because of their schedules, lives and what not. Some insight about this tour he mentioned was that they were given the chance to play there in mexico during the equinox and they were like "um hell yeah, why the fuck wouldn't we?" then the other dates sprouted because then they need to figure a way to either pay for the shows and/or make some profit out of it. logistically just playing the 2 mex. dates would cost them and they figured how many shows to at least break even. (again not verbatim just recounting how I interpreted it). Someone asked for them to play triad during sound check and he said that they have not jammed that song in quite a long time and that it probably would be horrible, but then again they played eulogy the other day and went quite well, needless to say we didn't get it.

soundcheck was interesting because Adam actually went over time in the Q&A they were hounding him a little to get out of there, so that was awesome he did that, we were escorted to the entrance where we were to enter but stopped us at the curtain. I actually ended up somewhere right by an entrance as well and got to hear stinkfist (not extended), and most of sober with maynard doing the vocals. after stinkfist maynard said to someone "hey don't fucking ignore me!" haha was great. When sober gets to the soft part that builds back up "trust me, trust me,...." is when we were let in, after that they tinkered around a little doing some chops, little bits then went into vicarious. This definitely threw me off as thinking "damn we get HWAP then,..." but just the one song down there is what we got but it didn't matter to me after the setlist that followed!

Show was absolutely great! being sooooo close (front row) was totally different experience, only thing same as I have read other places is that the vocals were drowned out most of the time. But being that close and being hit with tidal waves of music and the bass pounding into your heart and soul is quite an experience, think adam even recognized me and smiled with a little head nod (I'm sure everyone else around me thought to same thing to their selves, but hey I'll live in that moment!).

So much for cliff notes! I could go on and on, but hindsight I think I actually enjoy the full show at a distance usually by the mixing board (to get the best sound of course!) and you can see all the visuals, I am definitely in agreement with everyone else in that the experience was something people should do if they have the opportunity! only recommendation, throw in a show specific signed poster!? want it a special personal moment/experience why not commemorate it with the concert poster from "your" show with the other fellows acknowledging that you were there? yeah the vip poster is cool as hell too, just think that would be a freakin sweet cherry on top. But as it seems they don't sign those posters till later (as they were not available for us at the merch presale). just a thought otherwise effin phenomenal experience. Hats off to Adam, Juan, the TOOL tour crew, and of course Justin, Danny and Maynard for paper, scissors, rocking us! (actually a maynardism from coachella). maybe more later.... spiral out!

It really was a fantastic show, though. I was right behind the mixing board and it was perfect! I thought they may not sound as good as they used to (Maynard maybe) just because they are aging but they killed it! And the mixing was impeccable for danny's drums. I saw rush in November and danny's drums definitely sounded better than peart's.

Bite your tongue. I love Tool and Danny as much as anyone, but Neil is GOD. Rush still plays nearly 3 hour shows without an opening act. Tool is barely pushing 50 and they are doing like an hour an a half with an intermission and an opening act. The "old age" card indeed...

Fairly certain he was arguing Danny's drums in the mix were better than Peart's, not his actual playing. They are both amazing drummers.

Yeah I was talking about the mixing. Talent wise I wouldn't compare the two. In terms of concert length I think Danny could play for three hours, it's probably maynard's voice that can't handle that. I remember seeing them in 2001 and I thought the concert was a little long, on Thursday it was quite a bit shorter. Maybe it's just a warm up tour since the new album is (supposedly) on it's way. Theyve handled age better than most rock bands around their age. Look at The Mars Volta they fell off faaast

Whaaa? I saw The Mars Volta a few years ago and they were still kicking ass and taking names. Sure, Octahedron was eh, but they can still bring it live.

If you watch any live performances from 2010 on you will be disappointed. Cedric's voice took a shit and died. I liked Octahedron actually but Noctourniquet was super Eh to me. I think 2009 was the last good year. When did you see them?

My one and only time seeing them live before they broke up was opening for Soundgarden in 2011. I have no other point of reference besides videos, but I dug Cedrics performance.

Last time I saw them was 2011. The show was billed as Omar Rodriquez Lopez Group, but Cedric was there for the whole show and did vocals for the whole show. He still had a great voice/energy.

I do miss TMV though, they're in my top 3 bands along with Tool and Animal Collective. Still holding out hope for a reunion in a few years, once they sow their wild oats.

I guess maybe what I've seen is fatigue from touring then idk. I've always wanted to see orlg. I think some of his solo albums are just as good as TMV albums (Xenophanes, Solar Gambling, Apocalypse inside of an orange).
