I just asked amazon if they would reduce their price to the same, but they won't.
emp.de has it for 79,99€.
But the whole overseas pricing is just bizarre. Looks like everyone is importing from amazon.com / the US, paying the individual shipping/import costs and adding their margin.

Yea, that supports my hypothesis. But I don't understand why this is happening with such a large band and anticipated release.

79,99? Hm...but I stay with JPC. My experience with EMP isn't very well.

Anyway, really strange. Maybe they had problems with production in Europe/keeping the release date.

I love it. They are all on fire throughout this song. I think Adam does a great job on each transition. His tone is absolutely perfect.

Everything after “forfeit, all control” is flawless writing
Well, my point of reference for anything new was always going to be "Is it better than 10,000 Days?", as I really didn't care for that album. Descending and Invincible to me are amazing songs that are perfectly crafted and avoid issues I had with Days. With Fear Inoculum, I don't get that impression. Too much of it is sliding all over the place between the airy vocals vs the instrumentation. For example, I mentioned the chorus (Exhale...) and not liking where Maynard is dropping words, but now I think the issue is more the other guys playing in some other time or manipulation, when if they played in 4/4 there it would really come together. In your brain, insert a snare on two and four (roughly, keeping time yourself) to Maynard and it totally jives.

The only thing I really don't like is the drum sound, but overall I think this passes my litmus test, just not as astronomically as the other two tracks.

Satisfyingly, it’s enough to take a decent enough bath in to get the measure of where Tool are going, and for them to let you breathe it in deeply, rather than a quick, three-minute single and crap video.'

Off / on ramps
"on and off ramps to its preceding and subsequent tracks"
I saw that as well.
Could be song #6?

Yeah dude after you mentioned it all I can hear is the lack of cymbals! In FI the only cymbal hit you really even hear is that one hi hat tap in the mandala breakdown. Which is pretty classy I must say.

While I love the track I agree it’s 3rd out of all new tracks and they were just bootlegs! can’t wait for studio descending I think it could be their greatest song. (As long as they don’t fuck up the gong part)

Overall this cd is going to be nasty. I love 10k days (Jambi, Rosetta and wings hits close to home) but it is the least visited album out of their catalog for me as a whole. Everyone gushes over right in two but I really don’t listen to it all that much. I think these 3 songs give a good insight to where they are going through and I love it.

New song is fucking nutso. Love it so, so much. Enjoyed it on first listen but after a few more (and a dab or two), it's one of my favorite things I've ever heard from them. True progression while obviously staying true to their (intentionally) limited sandbox of (ahem) tools.

Also so happy it has such a Lateralus vibe to it while being different. Between this and how much I loved the bootleg versions of Descending and Invincible, I feel like this is going to be high on my list of favorite Tool albums. So exciting!

Feels like they really took stock of the absolute best/strongest things about this band, and synthesized and harmonized them into a new package that just amplifies everything they do so well, and takes them all further.

"...sliding all over the place between the airy vocals vs the instrumentation" sounds like a description of some of what I like about Tool.

(I'm not mocking your taste or explanation - just commenting on mine).

Hated it on the first 5 listens. Loved it by the 20th. This song is probably one of the more challenging Tool songs I have ever heard in tone and style. It was not at all what I was expecting and I think that is a very good thing. They could have taken the easy route and went with Descending as the single and everyone would have raved about how good it is but they went with FI and FI is something very different.

Interesting you mentioned the Lateralus vibe I actually got more Aenima from this particular track although I don't like wasting time comparing style to previous albums. This is very much a Fear Inoculum track. This sets the stage for what this album is about and it is very much it's own thing.

And holy shit the last two minutes...yessir...8 minutes to build to that ending and it works. It just works. I have issues with Tool. I will always have issues with Tool. But they are masters of their craft no question about it.

Definitely feels like a strong cross between Lateralus and Aenema vibes. Has that very Pushit sounding Eastern guitar riff in it with the pedal tone (also the Tablas remind me of both albums, obviously). But like I said... also something very, very different and new.

edit: I think the Lateralus thing to me comes a lot from the extreme psychedelic nature of it, and Maynard's kind of more introspective/personal lyrics.

Also REALLY digging the branching out in terms of effects they're using, especially on drums and vocals. Makes me salivate even more to hear the proper versions of Descending and Invincible, because you can tell just from the live versions there is surely a lot of studio experimentation that will go on that they just won't recreate live.

It must have been really hard writing melodies and lyrics to FI.

Can’t believe Danny is almost 60, he proved he’s a drum god.

The bendy guitar part that plays behind “forfeit.. all control” has me fucked up trying to play along. That extra bend before the hammer on gets me every time.

Now the tabs are out there this has been really fun to play! It’s slowly growing closer towards descending. just the difference in song from the first minute to last. Incredible.

Yep all this ^^^. Bang on. To add my two cents.... I get some 10k Days basslines thrown in too. So there you have it IF is combo of Aenima, Lateralus, 10K whilst being completely new...

Also Fear Inoculum is deceptively complicated rhythm wise. So much of it SOUNDS overly simple, but the more I listen the more I'm amazed at the very complicated interlocking and changing that's going on between the four of them.

edit: not deterring from anyone's opinion that it needn't have taken THIS long, but the more I listen to the new stuff, the more I can appreciate once again just why their stuff takes a LONG fucking time to hammer out.

Between this and Descending/Invincible, he's just nailing the fuck out of the lyrics in a way he hasn't since Lateralus. I liked 10K Days a lot in that regard, but it felt so disparate and not that cohesive. Which is fine, totally fine. But it's nice to see him get back to a more congealed whole with the themes.

The 3:58 mark when Maynard cuts in with a "Exhale, expel..." gets me each time. The song just keeps building and he comes back with another "Exhale, expel..." at the 5:26 mark. His lyrics and vocals at the end with the final "A long time... coming" is a perfect fit and finish to the song from him. The dark themes he's bringing to these 3 new songs all fit so nicely.

Hey y'all - used to be a regular poster in the lead-up/aftermath to the 10k days release and have been regularly lurking since. Nice to be officially back.

Anyone feel like what used to be called Bouncy Arab became the title track?
