Not sure I'm looking forward to all that "jam band" stuff. The vocal harmonies are what makes Tool really tick along, in my opinion.
Anyhoo...
MJKs voice as an instrument is one of the building blocks of Tool, personally. Aenima set it in, Lateralus drove it home.
Just an aside, but as an IT guy I'd really be interested in the specific measures to keep a release like this under wraps for so long, especially with the physical production. Is every record plant janitor NDA'd up the wazoo? Encryption keys kept under Maynards pillow at home?

I think they are keeping it really under wraps these times.
All big releases are these days. The can't avoid the inevitable though - once it leaves the more secure warehouses, someone will rip and upload it. There's no avoiding this unless you release the physical release after digital

I assume that record companies have really tightened up the chain in regards to album pressings. The facilities that manufacture albums these day have digital copies only on machines which have no method to which an untrusted employee can gain physical access (it no USB ports, CD drives, etc). Likely that the facilities require employees to enter without any phones or other items, and are scanned and/or searched on exit. It's only when it leaves this facility in the week before release that it moves into a more insecure environment (and record store, Amazon warehouse, wherever) that it leaks.
Unique situation about this album is the packaging. Most CD manufacturing plants I think can press both the CD and your typical CD pack on the same location. This may not be the case with Tool's fancier packaging.

I'd love for a casual fan to think 'Oh shit bonus tracks on the digital release, three wholes songs!' only to get it and it's only segues lol

I'd be insecure too if I had incontinence problems
"With all the instrumentation taking on new heights, it felt to me that vocalist Maynard James Keenan took on a different role as well. This time he favored the more angelic singing approach you'd find in A Perfect Circle than classic heavy screams. If my memory serves correctly, I don't recall a single scream on the album." Ok, I don't mind.
I don't miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiind
- You like noisy music?
- Yes. The louder the better. Stops me from thinking.
- You don't like to think? What do you like?
- Never thought about it.

Right... IIRC 10,000 Days was leaked a couple of days before the release as well?
6. Chocolate Chip Trip
Nice to see them return to their humble beginnings of anal allusion.

This sounds ehhhh to me. Does this mean EtE (like FI) or MDN/TS? Big difference. We'll see.
I know the pieces fit, I studied the numbers in Southern France.
i just figured it was ''semptest'' kinda like it looks.
turns out a Semptest is an inflatable kayak. :p
i also like that ''CCtrip'' is chocolate chip trip. haha. sounds like someone was doing shrooms baked into cookies. the best mushrooms i ever had were baked into cookies. reminds me of a that a little and its just fun. we also dipped the cookies in chocolate icing. highly recommend that as well!
