Wishful thinking that 7empest would be their next daily staple, but I don't think that would happen. I put this song in the category of 3rd eye or Rosetta stoned meaning that this will be played only once in a while. My best guess would be Pneuma or Invincible (which I love both and can not pick between either of them). All that said, I thought that Lateralus would be one of the bands staple songs for a closing song, but they stopped playing this song. Very unpredictable.

Junior, you have the best insight on this. Did the band really get tired of playing Lateralus over Stinkfist or Schism? (I'm so tired of Schism).

No idea. It just disappeared from the setlist one day and never came back.

Descending is probably the worst song they've ever written.

The top 10 reasons why Lateralus doesn't belong on the Tool setlist

10. It's like the 5th best song on the album
9. At almost 10 minutes long they could play Prison Sex twice in that time
7. Completely fucks up the flow of the show, most of the crowd can be heard muttering 'really, again?'
6. Features a gong
4. It's like the 5th best song on the album

Man if I had a dollar for eveytime I heard point 7 being muttered when they play it. Such a waste of space in a set that could have schism or something instead.

Busty I'd rather hear Descending instead of Lateralus right now... I'm sure you agree. I didn't see the 'play Prison Sex twice' suggestion coming though so well done on that one Tyson.

Schism with the extended middle part is really solid stuff, and Justin's little telling the crowd to be quiet before he starts his bit at the start of the song is really cool. Schism is also better when they just go straight into it without 2 or 3 minutes of 'noodling' around with different sounds.

Hearing Part of Me again on the last tour was awesome, same when they nail Intolerance, so I'd love to hear an old tune again. Can Maynard belt out Cold & Ugly, 4 Degrees, Prison Sex or something? That would be welcomed by old school fans.

That's the one I usually skip when playing FI. Don't know why, just doesn't work for me.

You'll always have Eulogy over me & I 4 degrees over you.

To those who can't pick up on sarcasm on here, descending is a bloody fantastic song but still, I'd take invincible > descending live and prefer it on the album for reasons already mentioned.

Spoon, Part of me was fucking amazing to hear live. I was respectful in my seat all night to those behind me and stayed seated for night 1 of melb but for part of me I didn't care. Was up on my feet screaming my little heart out. First Tool song I learned on bass and has a special place in my memory bank for my first holiday in far north qld as a young adult. Cold & ugly or better yet Jerk off would be phenomenal to hear.

Nah it was just a piss poor attempt at trolling, pull your head in mate and stay alive.

Also Spoon didn't mention Part of Me.

From the oldies (Before Aenima) I've heard Opiate, Sober, Prison Sex, Swamp Song & Intolerance. The song I'd really like to hear from that time would be Flood.

Lucky enough to have caught Flood twice. Sydney 02 (i think it was) they opened with it . Best opener I've ever seen & again Sydney big day out 2010 I think it was. Good times.

Intolerance would be killer live!

Rimb, sounds like Melbourne n Sydney got the same setlist. Have to be my favourite tool show out of 11 that one.

That was weird. I was hoping it would stick around.
I guess they played it at the clinics, but I wasn't at those.

I think off memory they played it that one time when Cornell died, unsure if it was as a tribute or not but damn I got excited about it. Is the song that got me into the band and fuck me id love to see it live.

Tyson,

I think I agree with you. Lateralus fucking sucks. I'm glad the band stopped playing it. Stupid song and stupid gong! Maybe they will write better music soon because the new album fucking sucks! I want to hear more gong!
