be realistic, "taking their time" was about 4-5 years. 9 years is like 2 jobs and 3 girlfriends ago bro

Exactly. "Taking their time" = 5 years between albums. Reznor "took his time" with The Fragile and (within that time frame) managed to create a serious artistic statement, manage Marilyn Manson and produce Antichrist Superstar AND deal with his own personal demons (ie relationship break up and drug abuse).

In nearly twice that time, Tool have managed to write a bunch of unconnected riffs with NO lyrics and.....fuck all else.

Oh wait, no they've been holidaying quite a bit. Good for them.

9 1/2 years between albums = they either can't be fucked or they have used up every single iota of creativity within in order to get this far. (IE they're good for only 3 or 4 albums).
