The poll for the best album of 2012 is looking good, but there's still another week to get your votes in. Here's a couple of albums I've checked out in the last week that I think are quite good:

Royal Thunder - CVI (Stoner Rock)
Sylosis - Monolith (Thrash Metal)

Thanks for that.  It doesn't have enough votes to make the list anyway.

At this stage, depending on how many votes I get today (the last day for the poll) I'll probably go with a top 20 rather than a top 10.  The top 8 is pretty clear, but the rest of the spots down to 20 are separated by one vote, so it seemed fair to do that.

so I've finally found some time to listen to a few releases on the list I hadn't yet.  Here's my 2 cents:

Death Grips - Money Store: interesting listen... kinda like an angry, glitchy-er Saul Williams fucking GG Allen... can see it taking a few listens to appreciate or you'll just hate the shit out of it.  Would not have made my top 10 regardless.

Tame Impala - Lonersome: Can't say there's anything incredible to write home about, but surprisingly, I also didn't hate it.  Solid album in concept and production... not quite in my personal top 10 for the year, but I can easily see it's popular attraction with it's throwback style matched with updated atmospherics.

Liars - WIXIW: Well, fuck, my top 10 just got fucked because this album should have easily been on it and it wasn't.  Took me only one listen to figure that out.

A bunch of others I've gone through in the last couple weeks that I've not too many great things to say about.  Once again, I've found that the vocal delivery on several otherwise musically sound records just ruins everything for me.

Next listen: Godspeed! You Black Emporor (which I can't believe I've not listened to yet)
well piss on my tits and tell me it's raining

with the list out, this is a bit pointless; Godspeed was good, but wouldn't have made my top 10.  Really enjpyed the first track, but admittedly, I increasingly lost interest thereafter... also completely spaced on Templars... that of prolly bumped an album off the list I made, as well... I suck

Thanks Hellboy for the list...

I don't know most of those bands but I guess I'll be listening to bunch over the next few months. I'm glad some of my choices had more than one vote!

Is it weird that I feel the need to listen to Parallax 1 before checking this out?  I keep seeing it mentioned and I think about listening to it, but then I'm like "Nah, I haven't heard the first part yet.  I'm going to be so lost," and I move on to something else.
