Re: YOB thread . . .
YOB will apparently be featured in the next issue of Decibel magazine if anyone is interested you may keep an eye open.
Re: YOB thread . . .
I would have so much preferred YOB as an opener over Failure.
Still digging in to their earlier albums and finding a lot to like. The vocals are sometimes a barrier, but I'm warming to them. Need to see them live.

I am a 100% convert at this point. It took a LONG time of digging in and just listening repeatedly, but I've finally come all the way around and I "get it." I think part of it is on a surface level, their sound is SO sludgy both in writing and from a production standpoint. But when you dig in, you start to notice all these layers to the tone and sound, especially the two guitars. Also Mike's voice has truly grown on me and where once I just heard overbearing growls, I can now hear a lot of nuance and finesse in those areas.Kittaan wrote:I would have so much preferred YOB as an opener over Failure.

Atma (the song) specifically is one where I used to just hear "OOOOOOOHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH" over and over. But once I found out WHAT he's singing about and knew the lyrics, little nuances and choices he makes within those growls/howls/etc. start to reveal themselves and, as intended I'm sure, this beautiful jewel started to unfold for me and all the droning, repetition and all of that made perfect sense to me. They're quickly becoming one of my absolute favorite bands.

Re: YOB thread . . .
it was a treat seeing yob in Portland open for tool.......quantum mystic , adrift in the ocean , and i am not sure what last song was..but hearing yob live was amazing not to mention front row seats.
go taff!
Re: YOB thread . . .
I've had the pleasure of seeing them open for Tool twice. Boomy arenas and "opening band sound mix" are not so kind to Yob's sound, but they were still great. Desperately want to see them headline their own show. Looking forward to the eventual US tour.

Oh yea, that's very unkind. Turned me off greatly to some bands over the years that I ended up loving.joeypants wrote:Boomy arenas and "opening band sound mix" are not so kind to Yob's sound,

If you don't all listen to "THE GREAT CESSATION" in the next 24 hours, I'll pwn a schoolgirl tomorrow on the train.
Do you really want to have that blood on your hands?

Re: YOB thread . . .
Nobody else finds it weird that I ask for people to listen to ONE album after everyone finally gives in and admits that YOB is finally awesome? After all the terrible albums that are posted in this forum?
Hilarious.
I aint even mad. I'm kind of impressed.

I've been rotating all of it in an attempt to not run Clearing The Path To Ascend totally into the ground.

Can't be done. And you're doing it right.joeypants wrote:I've been rotating all of it in an attempt to not run Clearing The Path To Ascend totally into the ground.
Technically, I"m still stuck on "ATMA" and "THE GREAT CESSATION". "CLEARING . . ." is going to take years to get over. Literally.
Not many bands can do that for me. Come to think of it, NO bands do.
O love will you read the letters I will send to you.

^good band. I think I might have started listening to them at your suggestion a long time ago...The Boss wrote:Maybe OLD MAN GLOOM.

Oh, whoa! I don't think anyone has ever got into a band after I've strongly suggested them.N.Y.H.C. wrote:^good band. I think I might have started listening to them at your suggestion a long time ago...The Boss wrote:Maybe OLD MAN GLOOM.

It's very unlikely that Clearing The Path To Ascend won't end up at the top of my end of year list.
