It seems it has already stimulated debate and aroused interest...M0G wrote:^ I appreciate what they are trying to do, but I do not agree with it. All Wu is doing with this project is to perpetuate exclusivity. We have come to a place as a species where ART needs to be accessible to as many people as possible. If this album is truly special, it is almost criminal not to release it. The idea that one cat is going to drop 5 or 10 mil on it just to sit on it and listen now and again is crazy.
I could respect the approach if the albums final resting place would be publicly accessible. The idea they have of doing tours to museums and letting people have listening sessions is interesting on some level, but it would only work long term if whomever purchased it donated it to a museum or institution where it could be experienced by the masses. Truly great pieces of art end up in museums and art galleries so they can be shared with the masses. They transcend social status and function to inspire and uplift the human spirit. They move our species forward in a manner. Wu is getting this shit all wrong. The album is going to end up with some pretentious cunt who can throw away millions like it is nothing and sit it in a nice display case. That is not what art should be about.
Also, let me be clear when I say that I do not think they should freely release this to the masses either. Artists have to get paid for their work. But they could have went about this in a very different way. They could have partnered with a company and created some sort of Wu Museum with a special listening room. The possibilities are endless. I respect them for trying something new but this album won't start any significant debate on art and music. It simply will function as just another status symbol for some rich fuck. It isn't breaking down barriers, rather it is building them back up. Further cementing those ever deepening dividing lines between those that have and those that have not. It is isolating a loyal fan base and is kind of a slap in the face.

Well, maybe there's a decent chance we'll see a new Faith No More album before a Tool one. Who would have believed that back in 2006....The Boss wrote:
And Hellboi, is there any reason for you to fucking dash all of our hopes? We're already without a TOOL album. Don't fuck it up for any other band, OK.
