I must have missed Dead Cross on the Riot Fest lineup. That definitely sweetens the deal. I've yet to see any one of Patton's bands.
Re: Live Shows, Tours, etc.
I even specifically pointed that out (albeit in the NIN thread) when people were complaining (unjustly) that the Riot Fest linup was shit:fortysixand2 wrote:I must have missed Dead Cross on the Riot Fest lineup. That definitely sweetens the deal. I've yet to see any one of Patton's bands.

Go see the Dweez if you get a chance. I've seen him about a dozen times in the last decade, both with ZPZ and solo. He never disappoints. Always a kickass band and he's one of the most talented guitarists alive.

Re: Live Shows, Tours, etc.
Is the solo stuff different from the ZPZ stuff? Because as I understood it he began touring as Dweezil Zappa because he got a cease and desist letter for using the Zappa name (from his family no less).
Also I watched a video of him explaining some of Frank's improv approaches and I have to say he did not do a great job. Very vague and inarticulate. Not sure I attend a masterclass by him.

From what I read "Plays whatever the f**k he wants" is pretty much the ZPZ show renamed due to said copyright issues.UndKeineZwEier wrote:Is the solo stuff different from the ZPZ stuff? Yup, it's as you both described, ZPZ. His solo shows also feature his current ZPZ band, but he actually has a solo album (well 7 actually), but the 2015 "Via Zammata'" he toured on last year was excellent live. Not a fan of his vocals, and some of the solo stuff is a bit weak in general, but as with Puscifer, they nail the material in the live performance.

Again, go see him if you get a chance.

Yeah, I can see how you'd get that from some of the vids on YT. However, I actually did go to a "Master Class" before his last performance in SF and while it was mostly just a Q&A with him (I brought an axe, but never took it out), it was fascinating to hear him discuss the process he went through teaching himself how to play Frank's style and totally reinvent himself as a guitarist. And he played some shit about 3 feet in front of me that I still can't believe was possible. He's a very down to earth and open guy with a big heart. I fully support him and can't understand where his "Family" is coming from. Fuck them sideways.nUKE wrote wrote:Also I watched a video of him explaining some of Frank's improv approaches and I have to say he did not do a great job. Very vague and inarticulate. Re: Live Shows, Tours, etc.
On a somewhat related note, i've been getting a lot of inspiration from Charlie Hunter lately.

Roger Waters bringing his show Pink Floyd show to Oz, and surprisingly Adelaide:

Not a huge Floyd fan, but might consider getting along to this for the show

Re: Live Shows, Tours, etc.
No Adelaide show, but given they haven't release released anything new since the last couple of times I saw them I'm not so bothered...

*just want to add: 'TM Verified ticket purchase' worked for me. This was the first time I used it. Happen to learn to sign up for it through RP's site couple days before on sale date.
The morning of the on-sale, got a link and a code sent to me, applied them via web browser and was able to score a pair. It was fast and easy. So be a-lert, because it's gonna start happening on shows you want to attend. I'm not sure if having the artist on your 'my fav's' list inside TM matters.

Everyone I know that saw it here was blown away by it (even those not that big on Waters). I would definitely recommend getting there if you can. I'm pissed i didn't take the two chances I had to see it.hellboy wrote:Roger Waters bringing his show Pink Floyd show to Oz, and surprisingly Adelaide:

^Her tour to support the release of Abyss was great.
I did like that album more than her new one though, and the drummer she had for the tour (Dylan Fujioka) was incredible.
I still go and see her again given the opportunity.

Re: Live Shows, Tours, etc.
Just got back from Melbourne for Mammal show. They've lost nothing as a live act and talked up more shows and new tunes. Hopefully they can keep the peace coz for first show in 7 years it was like they never stopped. Absolutely killer set
