Just finished hearing Katatonia- The Great Cold Distance and I dug it. Your "soft side of Opeth" comparison is pretty much spot on except for I like the Opeth guy better. Katatonia singer sounds a little to emotional for me sometimes. Just cry and get it over with already Good stuff overall, enough that I'm gonna check out their other albums you suggested as well.
Katatonia- The Great Cold Distance: 7/10

Fantastic! Go forward from that album now, and once you hit their most recent, go back to "VIVA EMPTINESS". The re-do of "DEAD END KINGS" is missable unless you like airy-fairy soft shit (like I do).
Can't wait for you fucking losers to realise what real music looks like.
"CROSSES". Fuck me sideways. Pathetic.
This forum makes TOOL fans look like fucking idiots at times.
Stay tuned, kids. You might just see me hit TODAY IS THE DAY.
Seriously, the shit you people listen to is appalling.

One of the most delicate songs I've ever heard.
Absolutely gorgeous. Steve Austin had my ear well before this album; still cool to know he has my support.

The one that started it when I was seventeen.
Gorgeous vocals, and something that, even beyond the age of thirty, I can identify with.
Shut up, Tyson.

Probably one of the best things that'll ever happen to you in your life.
Watch it closely for added wonder.

I chose this, over anything that she does with the beautiful ANTONY, because, frankly, you're all probably not good enough to hear it (again).
This is pure love/art/whatever you want to call it.
All good if you feel a little. That's the point.
I'll keep posting this song, as long as people will feel.
What's next?

Pretty solid tears. I understand the, ah, "delicacies", of the issue.
It's still nice to see and hear it splayed out so honestly in front of you.
I've always had O'Connor's back, even ever since she's gone nuts.

One of the most empowering songs when I was a little kid living on his own.
I'll always love HELMET for being so beautifully effective. Every riff, lyric, whatever - I love it.

A friend of mine tried to get me into this band. Tried, failed, but won, nonetheless.

I've loved everything that ISIS has ever done, since then. That's a big thing to say, when you look at bands like MELVINS (fuck you all, I love 'em to death), FAITH NO MORE, NEUROSIS; Hell, any band that's lasted for more than ten years.
From that day, from that chat, I've always felt that ISIS were something different. Not pure - but good to touch, to behold. Something a little more significant and real than most of the other bands we would normally listen to.
ISIS have always been a fan's band. They've delighted in creating atmospheres that even you girlfriend could appreciate. In my opinion, they're up there with TOOL and KATATONIA.

I'm a particularly nostalgic person. For a band as an intimating as KATATONIA, I could've started anywhere.
This song is gorgeous. If you want more, or expect more, go forward through their catalog.
They lack the intensity and complexity of TOOL, but, in lieu, I'll take KATATONIA.

I'd like to say I was a 90s kid - probably not as accurately as the Boy from Hell.
But I think we were an "inbetween". I mean, we saw Kurt die, and we enjoyed the 90s, but we were really fucking young. We got the ass end of STONE TEMPLE PILOTS. We were the first in line to see PEARL JAM fall flatt ("YIELD", in case you're keeping points).
For the most part, though, we were lucid, bright-eyed, and ready. Ready for the hangover that was bound to come from people like these:
[BBvideo 560,340][/BBvideo]
Yet we had recklessness, carelessness, a sense of outward identity - all because of a few songs.
This might've been one, for you - even if it weren't, it doesn't matter. Something happened with this kind of music, and it's stuck with us.
And fuck yeah. That fuck for that.

I've always been a fan of metal, grunge, whatever - makes it even better whence one finds MELVINS.
I don't mean to become poetic, but honest to God - I fucking adore MELVINS.
There we go. "Just put "The Bit" on re[lay and rocked out.
Love MELVINS.

Deftones - Beauty School
I love Deftones, chino's voice can remind me of maynard's at times but in a different way. They are both amazing.
