Re: What are you watching? Film/TV
I haven't seen it, but I was curious because of the buzz. Nothing about it was really talking to me though. Can probably say that about a lot of movies lately.Calfium Jay wrote:Baby Driver
Waste of time and space.
Having said that, in all fairness I'm probably not the intended audience for this fluffy, sassy, "MTV edgy", 90 minute iPod commercial for young adults.
Still, the guy at work who recommended this to me is going to get a punch in the mouth.
3/10
I think the only one I'm really looking forward to this year is Bladerunner 2049.
Curious, what recent movies have you seen and enjoyed?

I'm probably going to see Dunkirk in the coming weeks. War movies tend to get pretty overrated when released though, add the Nolan effect and you have the right recipe for good reviews.
I'm expecting it to be a good movie though, but am skeptical it's a 10/10

Re: What are you watching? Film/TV
I had hoped to see it yesterday, but it didn't happen. Given the opportunity I'd definitely see more movies in the theaters, just don't have as much free time these days. So it goes...hellboy wrote:I'm probably going to see Dunkirk in the coming weeks. Saw this tonight.
Probably my favorite movie of the year so far, though I can't really remember what other movies I've seen so...

Watched Terminator: Genisys today. Actually wasn't as bad as I expected. Though the acting and screen writing were largely terrible, I thought the story at least was interesting, unlike the last few Terminators.
Re: What are you watching? Film/TV
I thought it was good too except for what's his name being a terrible choice to play Kyle Reese.

Actually, I thought he was the best of a bad bunch. All round the cast was awful though.Ravenpig wrote:I thought it was good too except for what's his name being a terrible choice to play Kyle Reese.
Re: What are you watching? Film/TV
Personally I thought Jason Clarke as John Conner was the worst casting.
Emilia Clarke is nowhere near strong enough to lead a movie either. She's fine in something like Game of Thrones when she's cast as an interesting and generally well written character, but doesn't have the chops to carry a poorly scripted role.

Re: What are you watching? Film/TV
The first two of the reboot series are pretty good. Sounds like the latest is better again, so it's definitely on my list to check out.

Id have to go with the 2nd one being the best despite all the crirics claiming this latest to be the best but still really enjoyed it. Crazy how far cgi has come that you can so emotionally invested in these stories

The Australian filmmakers responsible for zombie hit "Wyrmwood" are at it again, and until someone wises up and gives them all the resources they need to bring the world another dose of bombastic cinema we have to be content with the short film work they are putting out. Someone give the Roache-Turner brothers all the money, please.

Terminator 2, 3D version (2017)
It felt like a time machine back to 1991 again, thanks to James Cameron for that experience.
10/10, EPIC.

Toshiro Mifune is one of the best japanese actors ever. Glad to see that someone appreciates Akira Kurosawa movies here.nxrm wrote:Hidden Fortress.

I've been re-watching a number of Kurosawa films lately, along with other Japanese films I've never seen. So many good movies, so little time.ziggy23 wrote:Toshiro Mifune is one of the best japanese actors ever. Glad to see that someone appreciates Akira Kurosawa movies here.

Re: What are you watching? Film/TV
Just finished watching a number of Yasujirō Ozu films.
Tokyo Story (1953) - Quite a moving story.

Floating Weeds (1959) - A remake of his earlier Black/White & Silent film A Story of Floating Weeds. Enjoyed this one.

Good Morning (1959) - Quite funny.

The End of Summer (1961) - Didn't enjoy this one as much as the prior three. Not bad, just not as noteworthy.

Re: What are you watching? Film/TV
IT
Mildly diverting adaption of the Stephen King "classic" Whatever. Better than the tv movie, but that's like saying.....oh hell, I dunno.
Anyways, two much goofy cgi and slapdash dealings with the source material for my giddy liking. Was left sorely wanting by the (by the numbers) ending.
At least my choc top was enjoyable.

Ghost in the Shell (2017) - Bit of a mess.

Kwaidan (1965) - Strange stories indeed. Very memorable and worth checking out.

An Autumn Afternoon (1962 - aka The Taste of Sake) - Yasujiro Ozu's final film. Enjoyed this one more than 'The End of Summer.' Ozu's films are really something: all quite similar, and seemingly simple, yet very thought provoking.

Red Beard (1965) - Akira Kurosawa feels slightly melodramatic after an Ozu film, and this one is a bit pieced together, but still a worth checking out.

The Sea is Watching (2002) - Original screenplay by Akira Kurosawa, but adapted and directed by Kei Kumai. Again, a bit melodramatic, but some interesting characters and story arcs.

Re: What are you watching? Film/TV
I've never read the book so only have the tv movie to go off so based solely against that as my knowledge of it I really enjoyed it the remake. Someone let a red helium balloon go at the perfect moment of a packed cinema mid movie which was just about the funniest thing ive seen in a movie theatre since team america adding to my enjoyment.Calfium Jay wrote:IT

In the Realm of the Senses - Directed by Nagisa Oshima (1976).
I knew very little about this one going in, other than it was "controversial." Can't recommend it, but it was definitely memorable.
