It is odd, but they've also done tours where they don't play LA and they're based in LA.

Believe 2010 was the last time they actually played LA.

I recall reading an interview with Adam some time ago about how performing in L.A. can be a bit more stressful than other shows for some reason.

It could also simply be that securing an appropriate venue on such sort notice is a problem in this town.

Whatever the reason, it bums me out.

I can think of 4 venues off the top of my head. Am I missing any?...

- Staples
- The Forum (aka shit hole near the ghetto)
- Nokia (if it's still called that)
- LA Sports Arena

Universal Amphitheater is now gone. They tore it down to make a Harry Potter theme park.

Hollywood Bowl comes to mind. Anyone know if Tool has ever played there? Haven't seen it listed anywhere that list old shows.

I'm leaving out ampitheatres/outdoor venues due to the colder weather. Also leaving out the outer areas of LA- such as Orange County and Long Beach.

Don't recall them ever playing the bowl, but honestly don't know.

Not sure when you were there last, but The Forum is actually really nice now. I saw U2 there earlier this year and it was a great show (despite being U2). Not only has the the venue been renovated, but the sound was pristine.

There are obviously local venues they could play, but I'm sure there's quite a bit involved with securing a venue for a show of Tool's scale a month out.

Or maybe the band just despises their L.A. fans even more than the rest, although they haven't been to England or Europe in a long time too. :)

Didn't know it was renovated. Was there one time for NIN in 2008, the concourse was just concrete slab with very poor lighting- and its in Inglewood, that drive into the parking lot was not too cool! Place sounded like total ass but that may just been our seats, hard to tell since any venue can have differing acoustics from section to section. Can honestly say it was the worst arena experience I've been to over the past 15 years.

If it's an OK venue now I'll have to take one's word for it. There have been some big bands that played there recently (U2, Foo Fighters) so there's that.

^My first Tool show was at The Forum in 2002, which was also the last time I'd been there until this year. At that time I would have suggested a lot of gasoline and a lit match to whomever owned it.

I'd heard a few horror stories about the venue over the years, and then that it had been renovated. I would still be sucpicious if it hadn't been for that U2 show.

I'll definitely go see another show there without hesitation.

not for nothing, but I'm pretty sure they consider it an NYC gig, when they play the arena over in NJ, no? If you count those (as I'm sure they do, based on proximity, the Jersey City show from 09 or so would definitely be a New York show and maybe even the PNC gig from 07

So, there is a hockey game at the Pensacola Bay Center the night of the 30th. Someone mentioned that the hockey game might get rescheduled. It would make sense considering they are a minor, minor hockey league.

Not at all! I wasn't going to be able to go to either New Orleans or Atlanta just due to days off and another upcoming vacation I'm taking. Solves all of that! Beyond excited.
