I think because we chose the 'hide you username' when signing in, but with most things on this forum, it doesn't work.

Thanks Matt.

That feature works fine imo

Ahhh, that makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up.

EDIT: BTW, you have a little thing on your avatar that says "online", so that would defeat the purpose of you going incognito anyway.

Must be a subscriber permissions thing then. Grevhok certainly can't see himself or you online, and he's my plain jane user account.

Can confirm that Bronze, Silver, Gold and VIP members can view members who are hidden. Ordinary users can't.

I'm open to feedback as to whether this should be left on or turned off.

Search reindex is now complete. I seem to be having more success searching through older threads now. What do you guys think?

I see no difference so far. Did some random searches using the standard then Advanced search. No luck. Seems pretty straight forward on options, but shit for results. Drag.

What are you searching for? I've had a pretty good result for everything I've tried...

I tried to find posts where I was wrong, 0 results.

Seems to be working.

I'm just really glad you gave WordPress the axe. I'm thinking about doing it myself. Nothing ever seems to work quite the way that it should.

This place is much better.

On behalf of all of us, I'd like to say thank you for putting in the work necessary to get this place up to speed. It's paying off so far.

Yes, because your blog is going to garner a following

Red wine again, huh?

It's more just for me to practice - I've never expected "a following". And I don't feel that WordPress really lets me do what I want, what with all the bugginess and weird shit.

Wordpress is pretty good as a blogging platform. The only issue is that like many mature pieces of open source software the code is bloated and basically needs to be rewritten. Fourtheye continues to exist in blog form, and always will. I won't be moving from Wordpress for that part of it any time soon.

Of course, being a good blogging platform doesn't mean it will be a good forum either, and while the two types promised much, they really only delivered via a lot of kicking and screaming, and at this point in time am happy to be using a dedicated forum package. phpBB ain't perfect though, it's just as bloated as WP is in many ways, but at least it's doing what it's designed to do for now.

The only downside is that the two sites are effectively seperate. There will be no cross posting or membership between the blog and the forum, at least not until someone gets off their ass and write a decent bridging mod for phpBB to wordpress. At this point in time the only good one has been abandoned, and I'm not going down that path at this point in time.

Huh, maybe I had something cached on my end? Last night I was getting zero results when searching for stuff I knew was there. This morning, it's giving results.

However, I guess I don't like the way it works. For ex: I search for "Porcupine" to find the PT/Steven Wilson thread. It returns 3 pages of results, none of which include the thread title, which obviously has Porcupine in it: Porcupine Tree / Steven Wilson - All Things Related Thread

You can click on the Jump To Post link way over to the right to see if that post is in the thread you're looking for, but that's so hit or miss. Why doesn't it return the actual thread title? Sometimes it does, but not in this case.

And when I go to Advanced Search, and try to tweak it to look in Topic Titles only for "Porcupine" I still get zero results.

I can give you further examples, but to me, that's not great search functionality. It's better after the reindexing, granted, but still far from useful IMO.

If I'm going about this the wrong way, please advise on how to use it more effectively. Again, the instructions seem pretty straight forward.

I noticed the same thing yesterday, but at least the results were there, so it doesn't bother me too much. The titles not appearing is some quirk of the importing of old posts, I think you'll find new posts don't have this issue. I have no idea why it behaves this way and not solution is yet presenting itself.

A couple of quick changes:
  • BBCode Editor is back
  • Tapatalk is now enabled if you're an Android user
  • Shortened the names of the View New/Active/etc items at the top of the page

1) Notice that (and I see the only way to get the Insert Vid icon is to hit preview still)
2) Fuck Android (yep)
3) Noticed that (much better)

Have also added the option to choose how many posts to show per page.

To change it:
  1. Go to the User Control Panel
  2. Click on Board Preferences, then Edit Post Settings
  3. Set Posts per page to whatever you like (I set mine to 30)
  4. Click the Submit button
