ok, my final word on the album - really liked the first 4 tracks (excluding segues) Nachash, AM War, We Are and The Refusal. Â As per my initial impressions, I feel like the album drops off a bit after that. Â It's probably no surprise that the first half that I enjoy is the heavier half of the album.
I was just having a look at my song ratings for Sound Awake, and I see that I've also rated 4 songs on that album highly, and would likely give them both the same score. Â That said, I do prefer the new one, it feels like a better album. Â As a result of that I think I'll give Asymmetry a 7/10 and Sound Awake a retrospective 6/10

I'm certain the musicianship is of fair to good quality, but until they get another singer, I refuse to give this band another moment of my time... I've tried in the past, including their EPs and even went to see them live. Â In the latter case, if that's as good as they are, they are highly over-rated.
I'm giving this record a standard 5/10, without a listen, because I can.Â

KARNIVOOL are one of the few bands that i would say can be compared to TOOL. They have come closest to reaching the depth of emotion and excellence achieved in TOOL than any other band i have listened to (besides OCEANSIZE). The pure, raw emotion that brings you as much physical pleasure as it does knowledge and acceptance of the universe; both inner and outer.
Seriously... I know it's hard for you to believe, but i am being one hundred percent honest.

I keep staring at the sky
I've been waiting for some time
So out of touch
So out of mind
I can feel you there, I won't lie
We're all just kids
We're all good liars
Good liars...
Please try to understand
There is no great plan
We have no idea
What lies beyond our reach
Try to understand
There is no great plan
We will cross the line
With an open mind
Show me what it is
Hush my desires
Set me on fire
Please try to understand
There is no great plan
We have cast our lies
To the open skies
Try to understand
We've another plan
We have crossed the line
With an open mind
We have crossed that line (x2)
You're new to me
And I believe
You have to be
The one we need
Soon you will see it with all
Our reasons for trying to justify
We hold the fate of the world
The dearly departed
They won't make a sound
They won't make a sound
You are the same as us all
Blood running in our veins
Few have the heart of a brave,
Now will you run or stay?
We hide away our vicious things
Don't let them out
Even the ones that we don't see
Who are always there
You are the salt of all
You are the salt of the same blood running in our veins
Few have the heart of the brave
Now, will you run or stay?
We hide away our vicious things
Don't let them out
Even the ones that we don't see
Who are always there
You're new to me
And I believe
You have to be
The one we need
Take me with you on your sky machine
(Please try to understand, there is no great plan)
I'm dying to know
(We have cast our lies to the open skies)
Way out far from what it is we see
(Try to understand, we've another plan
We have crossed the line with an open mind)
Soon you will see it with all
Our reasons for trying to justify
We hold the fate of the world
The dearly departed
They won't make a sound
They won't make a sound

So is this song about becoming atheist or finding God, ffs
Re: Karnivool
Finally got me grubby mitts on the new 'Vool physical release. First thing I did was crank up the Live at the Forum DVD included in the package. It was an excellent show. While they put on amazing shows in the US when I saw them, the crowds were tiny compared to the Oz audiences, so it was great to see them feeding off that home crowd energy. They were really on.
Still not entirely feeling Asymmetry in comparison to Sound Awake or even Themata, but I will crank this new CD mucho in the coming months, so let's see if that changes.

I will say they're much better than their stupid name. And this is from someone who's favorite bands have names like:
"Tool" Nine Inch Nails" "The Doors"

Re: Karnivool
THE DOORS were named after "The Doors of Perception" by The Almighty Huxley.
If you think that's a dumb name, you're dumb.

O love will you read the letters I will send to you.

I know all that, now listen to this nugget (true story): The Doors are my favorite band. Always will be. And I love their name. Even their name is my favorite. Doesn't mean its not a bit silly. The Boss wrote:THE DOORS were named after "The Doors of Perception" by The Almighty Huxley.

Re: Karnivool
None of those names are anywhere near as bad as Karnivool or Korn for that matter.Ravenpig wrote:+1Busty McCracken wrote:I'm trying to be patient with this album but it's still not grabbing me.. Has some good moments, but overall meh..

There are way worse names then "Tool" or "The Doors" out there. Even "Nine Inch Nails" is leagues above some of the terrible names out there.
