Ya know, I haven't really ever been able to get into Mastodon. I know that they are this, but whenever I've listened to any of their music (which to be fair, has been from earlier albums such as Blood Mountain and Leviathan), it just sounds like dumb, meat-head, bro-metal. I release that from everything else I've read about them that this isn't the case, but I just can't seem to hear anything when I listen to their music. It just sounds very, bland and "fist-pumpy."

Not sure bro-metal is a term I'd use. I can't say I've heard them singing about chugging beer, popped collars or yelling "Yo!" lots.

Perhaps. and it has been a long while since I gave them a chance. I guess to me, I just remember their music seeming really simple, very "UMPH" and "manly/bro" sounding, but I should listen to them again

also on a "what I am listening to" related to note; Subrosa - The Usher. (From album More Constant than the Gods)
If you are a fan of doom or prog metal Subrosa is really great - they remind me of a more progressive and melodic version of Pallbearer
