Unless they've been fucking with us all along and already have it recorded. Not likely, but anything is possible.

The loft renovation is interesting. Perhaps they constructed a professional studio in order to do their own recording.

From descriptions I've heard of the loft it would be near impossible to bring that up to the standard I expect Tool would demand to record an album.

hey Sublime, how are they just "writing" when Blair is listening to live studio recorded songs, "about half way through" the process back during Christmas? what are you on crack cocaine? yes, I believe the album will come out between mid May 2013 and the end of July 2013. do the math instead of stating emotions and being impatient.

they've been in the loft fucking around since June 2012, fact.

they've had at LEAST half of the album structured since Christmas 2012, fact.

it took 4 months to record Lateralus and 4 months to release it, fact.

it took 5 months to record 10,000 Days and 5 months to release it, fact.

3 months from "March Madness" and another 3 months to release it. opinion based on gathered facts.

fixed.

If by fucking around in the loft you mean writing, then yes you are correct and they've been doing that for about three years lol. However writing is all they do at the loft, they record in a studio. That's not saying they don't record anything when they're writing, I'd be surprised if they didn't record everything they play at the loft how else would they write an album? Store it all in there heads and on dry erase boards lol. This is likely what Blair had listened to.

So going off of the timelines of 8 and 10 months on there last two albums to RECORD and release there last two albums, we can safely say it will take at least 9 months to record and release there next album.  And with then still writing and not recording, like you seem to believe, then that 9 months hasn't even started and likely won't until after this short tour. I'd say sometime in the summer maybe June or July.

Also I'm not impatient at all I just deal In reality and facts, and your  3 month forecast for a release is just not going to happen, that's all. I could care less how about how long it's taking as long as there writing I can count on there being a tool album sometime in the future, and I can count on it being awesome.

Any further justification of  your timeline by yourself would be going full retard... Don't ever go full retard

yeah why would we listen to the band when it comes to information about the band. that's retarded. let's just listen to you and your negative frustrated opinions. a true expert on the constructing of a progressive rock album coming from a guy who listens to ska/pop-punk from the 90's. why don't you enlighten us all on the writing and arranging of the next Rancid album while you're at it.

You are an idiot.  How about you listen to the band when they say there WRITING not RECORDING. Or when they say the hope to enter the studio soon to START RECORDING.   I mean seriously I used your own damn "facts" and logic to prove that your a retard.

yeah I'm an idiot but I can push the quote buttons on a forum and hit "submit reply" without fucking it up three times in two days. writing, tracking, recording. now we're arguing semantics. when it says on wikipedia "recorded from" who knows what that means. it incorporates all three. I can record myself taking a shit on my iPhone but that doesn't necessarily stack up to Led Zeppelin recording "Houses Of The Holy". where is that confounded bridge anyway?

It's not 1997 anymore. These guys are approaching 50 and have other priorities in their lives right now. They are no longer the "hungry for creative action" bunch of thirty-somethings they once were. Just think of how many bands you like/liked who were still blowing yr mind after they had been around for 23 years. Very few. Cut them some slack.

In another 12 - 15 months, the new album will drop. Then feel free to dissect it any way you want.

All things being equal, personally I'm expecting it to be at least as good as 10,000 Days - if not as good as the preceding two (classic) albums....if not, I will shrug my shoulders, whack on Lateralus and probably feel good.

Part of this for me is about Tool's general lack of output in their career.  Another reason why this bullshit Opiate re-release feels like a smack in the face.  Had Tool put out something tangible, another Salival type release for example, during this crazy delay, I personally would have not complained about anything.

I get that they are older, have different responsibilities, etc.  Had they been more honest and realistic about their goals and timetables and tossed us a bone of some kind, a release with some substance, this delay between new albums would have been more palatable.

I am trying to be a bit less negative in how I view Tool and their process.  They have made some of the best music I have ever heard.  I have been with this band since the beginning and their music has in many ways been the soundtrack to my life.  The music has been there through good times and bad and I am thankful to Tool for creating it.

All that being said, I DO view Tool differently now than I used to.  There have always been delays between albums, but they have always delivered.  This delay has been very different.  It does bug me a bit that they have put their numerous side projects in front of finishing a new album.  It bugs me that they have become so disconnected as to think a 5000 run signed Opiate re-release at $150 bucks is a "thank you" to the fans.  It bugs me a bit that they are touring again when they said they wouldn't tour until they finished the new album.

Bottom line, it is what it is.  The album will come out when it comes out.  Tool has never failed to deliver musically.  They obviously know themselves, their needs, and their process better than any of us do.  Maybe the new album will end up being worth the wait.

I think its too much.

But to be honest I wouldn't have bought it if it was $50. No previously unreleased stuff = no purchase from me.

I dont know if that makes my opinion less valid.

I think many of us are in the same boat. I already own this release on CD. I have all the songs.

New artwork won't get me to buy something I already own - and considering I bought it for $10, I was never, ever going to pay $150 anyway.

O love will you read the letters I will send to you.

The forum was acting up before, thinking I was trying to move something (I wasn't).  I can only presume it was that post that it thought I was trying to "move".  Unless kittaan did, but I can't think of any reason why either of us would delete it.

I understand the difference I'm just stating that in Blair's December 2012 newsletter he does say he's guessing some of the songs were finished, he does say there are no vocals BUT they are LIVE LOFT RECORDINGS. Wav files recorded on a CD. That's not writing, writing and jamming is not synonymous with almost completed songs they actually burn to CD and let the webmaster listen to on the way to Chillies. These are not frameworks to a particular song, they are passed that with 6 or 7 tunes. These are now the frameworks to the entire album. Going from song structure to project structure is progression in the process.

From then until now they are writing an epic (possible 3 song) masterpiece. I doubt anyone outside of the band has heard this tune because they are still writing it. It's a small difference but your cut and dry comment makes it sound as if they are still jamming and fucking around with the original tunes from Summer/Fall 2012. I believe they've advanced past those sessions. Once that epic song is more complete, the rest will fall into place quickly. Having 9 or 10 songs down and ready to mold them into a certain order means they are significantly closer to completing this album. Plus it's been another full three months since then.

If in Blair's March or April newsletter we hear that they played him a rough recording of this epic track then we know it's really picking up a head of steam.

I apologize if you find my comments insulting. I'll try not to do that anymore (unless it's the Bicker thread) because you're obviously going deaf to my point.

^ Fuck never apologize in the Grudge.  Think of this thread as Bicker's fat ugly sister.  In the Grudge we strive to be as insulting as possible, particularly to over sensitive pussy types.  HATE HATE HATE!  Now excuse me while I go fill up Drury's momma's water bowl dish

NY I do think you are a bit of an optimist tho.  The new Tool album ain't gonna drop until next year.  They have all said they are about half way done.  I agree that they have probably made a bunch of progress, but none of them sound ready to hit the studio soon.

I just hope that fucking doucher named Maynard can somehow summon his pipes of old and not lay an egg on this monster they are writing.  If I hear an album full of "The Pot" im gonna take a shit on the new album and burn it.

he said that wine dries out the vocal chords and then decided to make wine for a living, go figure. I like the fact he goes to his truck to write so he won't be bothered, so if you email the guy instrumentals he can write on the fly. that's his style. people act like he's the one holding shit up and I honestly can't believe that anymore. for reals yo.

I'm not missing your point at all, I believe there exactly where you you said they are as far as writing goes, far past jamming and nearing completion.   All I'm saying is they  write first then record after. They didn't write record and release a master piece like lateralus in 8 months,  they toured and wrote for 4 years then recorded. Same goes for 10,000 days, hell even most of undertow was already written when they released  opiate and songs from anema were played before Justin was even in the band.  They write all the songs before entering the studio except for smaller details like layering and back tracking synth parts, then spending 4 to 6 months record those songs and putting the finishing touchs on it. Then Adam spends another 4 to 6 months doing art design and releasing it
