This dude just single-handedly surpassed Tool as my favorite (one man) band. His Coachella performance tonight was insanity. To Pimp A Butterfly is still my favorite album but DAMN if this new album doesn't sound even better after seeing him perform the songs live tonight. K-Dot makes me smile.

Old Kanye is good. New Kanye is lame... He's seeking records because of his name and legacy, not necessarily because the music is good anymore.
Kendrick is hiphop. This new album is phenomenal.

I'm not a giant hip hop fan so my comment shouldn't be take super seriously.
That said nothing I've heard from Lamar sounds like it's anything out of the ordinary. Perhaps I'm just not digging deep enough.

I listened to the Kendrick Lamar album yesterday. It was generally pretty underwhelming, though had a couple of decent songs.

Fair point. But you yourself admitted you arent a huge fan of hip hop in general. So your review is expected. I'm not a huge fan of Beyonce and generally dont like her music, but I know a lot do, so I dont feel like my listen through of her newest album would generate a much better review than yours of kendricks. I agree with your assessment. There are plenty of hip hop albums I do like though, this one just doesn't stand out. I did enjoy some of the slower more trip hop type tracks, but as a rapper I thought his style and lyrics are pretty run of the mill.xZ1mM3r wrote:Fair point.
