Maynard waits literal years to hear finished song. Maynard writes melodies and lyrics to finished song. Band decides song isn't finished and changes everything. What friction?

Do doubt there's some friction! What job doesn't have that though?Bill Hilly wrote:Maynard waits literal years to hear finished song. Maynard writes melodies and lyrics to finished song. Band decides song isn't finished and changes everything. What friction?
It'd be really interesting if Tool decided to release that old version of the song instead of the new one.

I know, I was thinking the same thing. Maynard even stopped himself in mid-sentence to state that some of the stuff they are rewriting is already awesome. I'm not saying the friction is a bad thing. We all know there has been good friction with this band, at least since the writing of Lateralus. I enjoyed Maynard's honesty with how he has processed the "dead-ends".

Not sure what time you should be looking at. Considering that was from the official Joe Rogan Youtube channel, I'm a little surprised its been taken down.
Update: Took a quick listen to the full video and the Tool bit kicks off at around 1:22:55

In all seriousness, it does sound like shit is finally getting finished....but not quite finished finished.

The interview fills me with hope. It's not coming soon, but the process is getting close to running its course.Calfium Jay wrote:In all seriousness, it does sound like shit is finally getting finished....but not quite finished finished.

Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
I have new found respect for Maynard after watching him on the Joe Rogan exp.
I always thought his other projects were delaying tool albums.
I always though using "the one the ten" in laterlus was a little amateurish and just to fill the gaps.
It turned out he feels the same way
Edit : Maynard said that he has written songs with his 3 band members before, any idea which ones?

Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
Pretty sure it was all the pre-Lateralus stuff or at least most of it.

Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
Yeah, I expect that Opiate/Undertow/Aenima were written more as a group than the later albums were. Maynard talks about bringing songs to Tool in his book as wellUndKeineZwEier wrote:Pretty sure it was all the pre-Lateralus stuff or at least most of it.

I always thought using syllables singing, for the timing of the 987meter, in Lateralus was uniquely beautiful .

I'm really liked listening to this interview. I get the feeling a new album is still 2 years away.
Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
2 years is right .
I changed my whole outlook on this subject ,let them take their time as long as they deliver something solid and unique.
Mozart was a composer at age 7 but created his most popular music during his later years.

While 2 years wouldn't surprise me, the vibes recently seem to indicate they're very much on the home stretch. I reckon that once Adam, Danny and Justin "finish" (and I reckon the will this year) the the remainder of the album will come along pretty quickly.
I think we're still likely to see the album in the second half of 2018.

Yeah, I think I'm going to have to go ahead and pick a new release date, because March is highly unlikely at this point.hellboy wrote:While 2 years wouldn't surprise me, the vibes recently seem to indicate they're very much on the home stretch. Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
Yeah, March ain't happening. If we're lucky they might be recording in March, but not even counting on that at this stage.nxrm wrote:Yeah, I think I'm going to have to go ahead and pick a new release date, because March is highly unlikely at this point.hellboy wrote:While 2 years wouldn't surprise me, the vibes recently seem to indicate they're very much on the home stretch. Earliest I can imagine is next fall. I do feel like they will release it in fall instead of spring after the interview. I'm guessing that it will be October 2019.
Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
At the moment I can't see any reason that it can't be ready for release in 2018. Maybe it won't make it until 2019, but I don't see anything standing in the way (aside from the usual range of Tool excuses)

I hear ya hellboy. It seems reasonable it will be released next year. I may just be trying to not get my hopes up for like the 6th year. The only thing that comes to mind is that for some reason the APC material may be ready before all the Tool material is and they release the APC record first. The way I look at it is that in the next two years we will have a new Tool and APC record with considerable amounts of touring and a new Puscifer shortly afterwards along with lots of Tool "from the vault" stuff trickling out. I'm probably getting my hopes up with all that. Lol.
