Far Cry 6 Takes Big Swings on New Gameplay Elements

The idea of a guerilla fantasy -- building up a revolution from scratch and overthrowing a territorial despot -- has been a staple of the Far Cry games, and although Far Cry 6 looks to carry on in that tradition, don't be fooled: there’s plenty of newness here too. During my hands-off preview and interview with Lead Designer David Grivel, I was impressed with the fresh systems the team has baked into the latest game. For a series with Far Cry’s pedigree and built-in player base, they took bigger swings than they strictly needed to. From tweaking the game’s outpost system to introducing the possibility of Hitman-like stealth to a wild array of cobbled-together weapons that we’ll definitely get more into, your quest to overthrow El Presidente and free the Yaran people aims to put more gameplay options at your disposal than ever before.

Most of what we’ve learned about FC6 thus far has been about the world and cast, and fairly so. Giancarlo Esposito is an incredible get for the game’s big bad -- if anyone can rival the impact of Michael Mando as Vaas, it’s the man who played Gus Fring. As Anton Castillo, the murderous El Presidente of the fictional caribbean island-nation and Cuba-like called Yara, he seems to want nothing more than to consolidate his power and hand the reins over to his son Diego...before, in true Far Cry fashion, you wander into the plot and presumably throw a monkey wrench into his plans.

Dying Light 2 is coming on December 7

A new gameplay trailer revealed today goes deep into what players can look forward to.

After 3 years of waiting, a stretch that included delays, reports of chaos, and reassurances that it was not trapped in development hell, Dying Light 2 now has a release date. Techland revealed during today's livestream that Dying Light 2 Stay Human, as it is officially known, will be out on December 7, and preorders are live now.

Set 20 years after the events of Dying Light, Dying Light 2 Stay Human sets players off a romp through the City, humanity's last stronghold, which they'll explore using advanced parkour mechanics and, when necessary, "tactical" combat. As in the first game, gameplay will change with the dynamic day-night cycles, which will see more, and more powerful, zombies emerge when the sun goes down. But nighttime also offers opportunities for high-value looting that just aren't there during the day: More risk, more reward.

The new game will be bigger than the original Dying Light, with expanded parkour abilities, a much larger map, and narrative choices that will have an impact on the game world. In a 2018 preview, for instance, players searching for a missing NPC could opt to support one of two different factions, which would impact the game world and available resources.

And, no surprise here, zombies aren't the only thing to worry about: "Plunder abandoned lairs of infected at night and discover the dark secrets of those in power by day," Techland said. "Players must choose which side they want to take and write their own story."

Dying Light 2 will be available in three editions—standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate—and there's a swanky collector's edition as well, complete with a UV-illuminated statuette. Preordering any of them will also get you the Reload Pack, a collection of bonus items including a unique outfit, weapon, and paraglider skin. Full details are up at dyinglightgame.com, and if you missed the livestream reveal you can catch the whole thing below.

The Xbox Game Pass lineup is super impressive. Keen for Starfield, but intend to not really keep up with what the devs may or may not say about the game.

Diablo 2 remaster? £34.00...cut to Diablo 4 released a few months later

Outer Worlds 2 0 think i'll check that out. The first one was enjoyable.

Far Cry 6 will buy when proper cheap.

Dying Light 2 will be awesome

Crysis - never played this.. thoughts anyone?

Elden Ring - not my genre but looks fantastic

Starfield could be epic....

Thanks for all the updates Ziggy!

These remasters are way too over-priced. I think D2 remaster is on Xbox Game Pass, so might check it out there. Not sure there's any guarantees D4 will be out a few months later

Outer Worlds was fun, though i never completed it. I'm sure OW2 will be a good game, but I don't find myself super excited to play it. More interested in what else Obsidian are working on (ie Avowed)

I never got around to playing FC5 yet, so not sure I'm super interested in 6. Like most Ubisoft games, I'll get it one day when super cheap

Crysis is ok, but is more graphics than game. Don't see the value in a remaster

Not a Soulslike fan, so Elden Ring does nothing for me.

Keen for :
  • Atomic Heart
  • Forza Horizon
  • Psychonauts 2
  • The Ascent

Checked out The Ascent. That looks decent. Is it Xbox Exclusive?
